The Matured Cameroonian: Alexandre Song Has Come of Age and Is in Great Form
When Gilberto Silva, Arsenal's long-time serving central defensive midfielder, departed Arsenal last season to pursue a career in Greece with Panathinaikos, Alexandre Song was bestowed with the role of first defensive midfielder.
Having first arrived at the club in 2005 from Bastia, originally on loan. Alexandre Song played solidly, usually only contributing in the League and FA Cup. The Cameroon midfielder prove to be a very versatile players, able to play anywhere across the backline and midfield.
As Arsenal suffered what was some what a disappointing 2008/2009 campaign, many criticised Song. Many felt Song was to wasteful when the ball was at his feet, others believed he was lazy and inconsistent, often displaying lackluster performances when they were vitally needed.

But come 2009/2010 the footballing world met a new Alexandre Song.
As Arsene Wenger insisted on a new formation, it was vital Alexandre Song performed in the defensive midfield role, and so far the 22 year old has done his job superbly.
Although he may not be receiving as much praise as the impressive attackers of the Gunners. Song has shown a strong, no nonsense style of play. Chopping down midfield attacks and also tracking back vitally to help his fellow defenders.
Arsenal are desperate for a strong defensive midfield/Patrick Vieira figure and the nephew of Rigobert Song is certainly capable of obtaining the role of strongest defensive midfield.
The Cameroon international's preseason work has been evident, Song has improved his fitness, passing, pace and tackling and has transformed into a huge attribute in the Arsenal side.
