The charges are in relation to a fraud case against Neymar, his father, Barcelona and former Blaugrana president Sandro Rossell which claims the true value of the forward's transfer to the Camp Nou was concealed, per BBC News.
Per the Mirror's Ed Malyon, even if Neymar, 24, is sentenced to two years, he may not have to spend any time in prison:
A beIN Sport report revealed that the prosecutors have asked that Barca be fined €10 million (£8.6 million) and Rosell handed a five-year sentence.
In addition, DIS—the investment group which filed the complaint and claim it is owed more for the 40 per cent stake in Neymar it owned—want heavier sanctions.
Per beIN, it wants five-year sentences for Neymar, Rosell and current Camp Nou president Josep Maria Bartomeu, as well as a €195 million (£166.6 million) fine for Barca.
The crux of the issue centres around how much money Barcelona paid to sign Neymar.
Initially, Barca claimed they paid €57 million (£43 million) for him before investigators indicated "the fee was closer to €83 million and Barcelona concealed part of the deal," per BBC News.
As a result, DIS feels it was deprived of increased payment given it was compensated for its 40 percent of the player's sporting rights in relation to the initially reported fee, rather than the altered one.
Both Barcelona and Neymar have denied any wrongdoing, per BBC News.
