The Revival Defeat New Day in WWE Main Roster Debut on Raw
After dominating NXT, The Revival made its WWE main roster debut Monday night on Raw.
The New Day issued an open challenge to any tag team in the back, and Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder answered the call. WWE shared a replay of their debut:
As one half of #DIY, Tommaso Ciampa battled The Revival on numerous occasions, but he couldn't contain his excitement at seeing the two stars show up on WWE programming:
"Say yeah!

Congrats boys...well deserved. #Revival#RAW
Dawson and Wilder earned the victory Monday after hitting the Shatter Machine on Xavier Woods, courtesy of WWE:
Dawson and Wilder formed arguably the most successful tag team in NXT history, as they are two-time NXT tag team champions, with each of those reigns exceeding 160 days in length.
Dawson joined NXT in 2012, and Wilder arrived in 2014. Neither Superstar enjoyed much success in the singles ranks, but they began to turn heads when they first started teaming together in July 2014 as The Mechanics.
Although they were initially used as enhancement talent meant to make other teams look good, that changed in October 2015 when they shockingly defeated The Vaudevillains to become NXT tag team champions for the first time.
That put The Revival on the map and allowed Dawson and Wilder to start building their characters and developing into one of NXT's top heel acts.
They prided themselves on being no-frills performers and utilized the catchphrase "no flips, just fists." They also drew comparisons to old-school tag teams such as the Minnesota Wrecking Crew and the Brain Busters.
The Revival's first title run ended when it lost to American Alpha at NXT TakeOver: Dallas during WrestleMania 32 weekend, but the team recaptured the belts at NXT TakeOver: The End just two months later.
Dawson and Wilder engaged in a feud with #DIY shortly thereafter, and although they managed to defeat Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II, that feud was far from over.
Gargano and Ciampa got their revenge by winning the titles at NXT TakeOver: Toronto in a 2-out-of-3 Falls match, which set the wheels in motion for The Revival's eventual ascent to the main roster.
By that point, Dawson made it clear he believed the team was ready to make the leap, especially ahead of some of the talent that was getting main roster television time ahead of The Revival:
The Revival likely stuck around in NXT in large part due to a lack of depth in the tag division, but with the development of teams like #DIY, The Authors of Pain and the eventual return of TM-61, the opportunity arose for it to reach the next level.
The main roster is stacked with talented tag teams such as New Day, Enzo Amore and Big Cass, and American Alpha across Raw and SmackDown Live, but there is plenty of room for The Revival since heel teams are at a greater premium.
Dawson and Wilder have established themselves as clear heels during their time under the WWE umbrella, and they are well-equipped to climb the tag team ranks because of that.
Although it may take some time before they're holding tag team gold on the main roster, their in-ring work and personas should allow them to be in contention before long.
