Manchester United Transfer News: David De Gea, Reece Oxford, Latest Rumours

Chris LakerNov 14, 2016

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea reportedly has a clause in his contract allowing him to quit Old Trafford for €60 million.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca (h/t Ed Malyon of the Mirror), the United star would be available for the equivalent of £51 million at today's rate, per XE.com.

That could reignite the interest of Real Madrid, who tried to prise De Gea away from United on transfer deadline day in 2015. A week later, he signed a new deal to stay in Manchester until 2019.

However, despite Real insisting De Gea "has not been forgotten," an anticipated transfer ban for the Spanish club would mean they wouldn't be able to launch any renewed attempt to sign him for another 18 months, as per the report.

De Gea's performances have improved immeasurably since the collapse of his Madrid move, and he is now arguably the best goalkeeper in the world.

His displays this season have certainly been impressive, and he has often been United's saviour, perhaps most notably against Liverpool, where he excelled to earn his side a 0-0 draw.

De Gea is firmly established as a fan favourite at Old Trafford, while former Reds legend Jamie Carragher hailed the Spain stopper as "one of the best" following his performance at Anfield, per Robert Cottingham of the Manchester Evening News.

Meanwhile, United look set to be thwarted in their bid to sign Reece Oxford from West Ham United, who is poised to pen a new five-year deal to stay at the Hammers.

Oxford attracted the attention of Jose Mourinho, who explored the possibility of signing the 17-year-old during the last transfer window, per Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail.

He enjoyed a fine game against Arsenal last season to bring him to the attention of bigger clubs but has only made a handful of appearances for the Hammers since, as manager Slaven Bilic has opted for experience during his side's difficult opening to the season.

Oxford's current deal with West Ham runs until 2018, meaning there was a danger the teenager could leave on a Bosman free transfer at the end of next season, per the report.

A strong and agile defender, Oxford could be a gem for both club and country given time and the right development.

His moment will surely come sooner rather than later for the Hammers, as Bilic's men have struggled this season upon their arrival at the former Olympic Stadium in Stratford. Defensively they have been particularly lacking, managing just three clean sheets in their 11 matches so far to sit just above the relegation spots.

Oxford has not made a Premier League appearance so far this campaign and may be considered too lightweight to start regular matches in the Premier League.

However, Bilic will need to balance the needs of his team with the needs of a young player with so much potential and a likely desire for first-team action.

With news of the reported five-year deal, Hammers fans will be buoyed by the fact Oxford clearly sees he can continue his development at the club.

But those same supporters will also be keen to see him handed a proper chance to show his talents at West Ham and not be attracted by bigger offers from elsewhere.
