Austin Maloata Dismissed by Oregon After Arrest: Latest Details, Mugshot & More
Oregon dismissed lineman Austin Maloata from the team Sunday after the junior's arrest for DUII and reckless driving.
Andrew Greif of The Oregonian reported the news of Maloata's 1:48 a.m. arrest, which came after he ran through a red light and collided with another vehicle.
Tim Brown of The Oregonian provided the player's mugshot:
Oregon lost to Stanford 52-27 Saturday night, hours before the incident.
The defensive lineman was a 3-star recruit from Corona, California, in the 2014 class and has developed into a valuable player in the trenches. In eight games this season, he had 27 tackles, including three for a loss, and 1.5 sacks.
Despite Maloata's important role on the team, head coach Mark Helfrich wasted no time removing him from the roster. Wayne Tei-Kirby and Gary Baker will now likely see more playing time alongside Rex Manu in the interior defensive line.
This continues a rough season for Oregon, which has seen the squad fall to 3-7 on the season and 1-6 in the Pac-12 after a 2-0 start. Additionally, the Ducks are now having a hard time keeping themselves out of headlines for off-field incidents.
Linebacker Eddie Heard was also suspended from the team following his arrest for assault.
