Sunday's clash between Chelsea and United will be the highlight of the weekend for neutral fans, pitting two clubs with top-four ambitions against each other. Both are perennial title candidates who switched managers during the summer, and both are still figuring out their best starting XI and identity moving forward.
Antonio Conte's Chelsea have already lost to Liverpool and Arsenal, and while the 3-0 win over defending champions Leicester City was impressive, the team are still looking for their first big win over a top team.
Per Chelsea's official Twitter account, the manager wants his side to show him they've improved since those back-to-back losses:
Consistency has been an issue for United. Like Chelsea, they cruised to a win over Leicester, and they were in full control on Thursday in the Europa League. But the Red Devils have been held to draws in their last two Premier League outings, and they also slumped to a loss against Watford.
It will be Jose Mourinho's first outing against former club Chelsea, but Blues stopper Thibaut Courtois doesn't believe that will be an extra motivation for the United boss, per Sky Sports News HQ:
United did a marvellous job jamming Liverpool's attacking moves in their last outing, but under Conte, Chelsea are less adventurous moving forward. In all likelihood, the Red Devils will see more of the ball, and they'll have to open up if they want to grab a win.
Southampton lost 1-0 against Inter Milan on Thursday despite dominating the majority of the match, and the team now face a real challenge against a City squad determined to bounce back from their own midweek struggles.

The Citizens were crushed by La Liga giants Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, proving manager Pep Guardiola still has a lot of work to do, despite his fine start in the Premier League. And after the 1-1 draw against Everton, City desperately need a win to keep their top spot in the standings.
Fans will keep a close eye on the team sheet and the presence of Sergio Aguero, who was shockingly dropped at the Camp Nou. Per James Robson of the Manchester Evening News, it may not have been a one-time thing:
Arsenal enter Week 9 in fantastic form, and on paper, they should cruise to another win against a Middlesbrough side that has lost four of its last five matches. All but one of those losses came by a single goal, but that trend could change against Arsenal's vaunted attack.
Per Squawka Football, things aren't looking up for the side:
Tottenham are the last unbeaten team left in the Premier League, and that isn't expected to change against Bournemouth. The Cherries have won two of their last three, but they've yet to grab a win over a team as talented as Spurs.
