Liverpool Transfer News: Jurgen Klopp Talks Reds Transfer Policy, More Rumours

Rob BlanchetteOct 8, 2016

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken about his transfer policy since joining the Reds, and he has admitted he cannot always please fans when it comes to selecting his signings.

Speaking to Andy Kelly of the Liverpool Echo, the charismatic German coach explained what he looks for in the new players he brings to Anfield but said not all of his choices will be advocated by supporters around the world:

"

[I have to like the player we sign] in a specific way of course, they have to fit in a team, that’s how it is. We are so often, so long in the day together, it’s based on sense, you always think "oh my god what a footballer but please". First of all it’s all about football skills, abilities, but it’s very complex. But at the end you have to accept you can never do what everybody wants, I learned that pretty quickly.

According to James Gray of the Express, the Liverpool boss spent £53 million on Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum in the summer as he diversified his options in midfield and attack. However, Klopp more than balanced the books by selling 14 players for a total of £74.8 million.

Mane has been in sensational form since arriving from Southampton, providing genuine threat with goals and assists. The 24-year-old has three goals and one assist to his name in the Premier League, according to WhoScored.com.

Klopp also discussed the depth of his squad at present, and said he is content with the players at his disposal, per Kelly.

"I’m completely fine with my squad this year, I really like it," Klopp said. "Good characters, good attitude and all the rest you have to develop. I saw a lot of things last season where I thought ‘ok, come on’. You cannot do more than try, you can buy a guarantee."

In other Reds news, Paris Saint-Germain want to sign Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho, as they look to rebuild their squad after big-name departures from the French capital.

According to French outlet Le 10 Sport (h/t Anthony Chapman of the Sun), PSG wanted the Brazil international last summer but will now make an offer they believe will capture the playmaker, stealing him away from Merseyside. The Ligue 1 champions bid £22.1 million for Coutinho in the previous transfer window, but they "will return with a gargantuan offer in order to secure his signature."

Squawka Football highlighted why the midfielder is in demand as he competes with the best attackers in England:

Losing Coutinho would be a bitter blow for Liverpool as the player has developed into one of European club football's most exciting talents.

Klopp has a wide selection of attacking midfielders at his disposal, but Coutinho has the potential to take the Reds to the next level if he remains in the north-west.

Roberto Firmino has now settled at the club and can play a deeper role if his countryman leaves for France, but Klopp will not want to disturb his selection in January if PSG come knocking with a huge offer for one of his primary talents.
