Most Important College Football Recruiting Visits of Week 6
Rivalry games in the talent-rich states of Florida and Texas are just a few of the battles that highlight another strong slate of college football games this weekend.
However, there are a handful of conference clashes in the SEC, Big Ten and Pac-12 that feature a high degree of intrigue.
The loaded weekend schedule will also provide recruits around the nation with another opportunity to check out schools that hold their interests.
But which visits should fans be paying close attention to?
Let's take a look at the most important college football recruiting visits of Week 6.
Florida: 4-Star WR Donovan Peoples-Jones
1 of 5Class: 2017
High School: Cass Tech High School (Detroit, Michigan)
Size: 6'2 ½", 190 lbs
Scout.com Ranking: No. 4 wide receiver; No. 34 overall
One of the nation’s most coveted skill athletes in the 2017 cycle is 4-star receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones.
He's already taken an official visit to Nebraska and made the short unofficial trip to see in-state power Michigan in September.
This weekend, the nation's No. 4 receiver will make the long trip south to check out the University of Florida.
As Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports noted, he will be paying close attention to what the game-day atmosphere is like in Gainesville.
"I want to see everything," Peoples-Jones told Wiltfong. "I've never been on an official there, I've never been to a game there, I know they play LSU and it's going to be exciting to witness that game and be around Gainesville that week."
He already made a visit to see the Gators program in the summer. His trip this weekend could go a long way toward ensuring Florida is in the mix with him when it comes time for him to make a decision.
Miami: 4-Star RB Anthony McFarland
2 of 5Class: 2017
High School: DeMatha Catholic High School (Hyattsville, Maryland)
Size: 5'8 ½", 203 lbs
Scout.com Ranking: No. 5 running back; No. 40 overall
The Sunshine State showdown between Florida State and Miami is a huge game for recruits from the state of Florida.
However, the homestanding Hurricanes will use this weekend's meeting as a showcase for a handful of elite out-of-state visitors.
According to Andrew Ivins of 247Sports, one such player is 4-star running back Anthony McFarland, who will use his first official visit to see the Canes in action.
McFarland, who is the No. 2 overall prospect from Maryland in the 2017 cycle, is also considering programs such as Alabama, Maryland, South Carolina and Tennessee.
The Hurricanes will look to make a lasting first impression in what should be a festive atmosphere in South Florida this weekend.
Oregon: 5-Star WR Joseph Lewis
3 of 5Class: 2017
High School: Hawkins High School (Los Angeles, California)
Size: 6'2 ½", 200 lbs
Scout.com Ranking: No. 1 receiver; No. 13 overall
Oregon is one proud program that is enduring a tough start to the 2016 season.
It won't get any easier for the Ducks this weekend as they welcome No. 5 Washington to Autzen Stadium.
Ducks head coach Mark Helfrich and his staff will use the opportunity to welcome in the nation's top receiver prospect in 5-star Joseph Lewis.
Lewis, who took his first official visit to Nebraska last weekend, will also take officials to Alabama and Oklahoma next month.
However, as Justin Hopkins of 247Sports noted, even though the Ducks have ground to cover to get near the top of his leaderboard, this visit opens the door for Oregon to make a move for his services.
Penn State: 2019 4-Star DT Antonio Alfano
4 of 5Class: 2019
High School: Bergen Catholic High School (Oradell, New Jersey)
Size: 6'4 ½", 260 lbs
Scout.com Ranking: n/a
Penn State has gotten off to a rocky start in the 2016 season, but head coach James Franklin and his staff are still putting their heads down and going full throttle on the recruiting trail.
This weekend's home date against an unbeaten Maryland squad is a big game on the field and one that is likely to impact the Nittany Lions' recruiting efforts.
One player Franklin and his staff have already identified as a potential difference-maker is 2019 4-star defensive tackle Antonio Alfano.
The Garden State native will return to a campus he is already familiar with early in his search.
As detailed by Alex Gleitman of 247Sports, Alfano was thrilled to receive an offer from the Nittany Lions in the summer.
"It was a big deal for me," Alfano told Gleitman. "I've been up there multiple times, and I've kind of showed I wanted that one really bad. Once that came to me it was awesome, my dad had tears in his eyes."
He confirmed to Gleitman that Ohio State and Penn State were two schools "leading the pack" in his recruitment.
The Nittany Lions will look to build on a strong foundation they've already established with Alfano during this weekend's visit.
Texas A&M: 5-Star OL Walker Little
5 of 5Class: 2017
High School: Episcopal High School (Bellaire, Texas)
Size: 6'8", 305 lbs
Scout.com Ranking: No. 2 offensive tackle; No. 16 overall
The game of the weekend may be in College Station as Tennessee heads to the Lone Star State to take on Texas A&M.
As Taylor Hamm of 247Sports detailed, there will be a number of elite recruits in the stands on hand to witness the showdown between the Vols and the Aggies.
One of the bigger names on that list is 5-star offensive lineman Walker Little, who is the No. 3 overall player from the state of Texas in the 2017 cycle.
Alabama, Florida State, Ole Miss, Stanford and Texas are among the other schools in the running with Little.
The Aggies—who will also have Little's teammate and 5-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson on campus—are hoping the trip leads to them becoming a factor in his recruitment as it winds down toward a decision.
