Texas running back Chris Warren III suffered a knee injury Saturday during the team's Week 5 game against Oklahoma State.
Continue for updates.
Warren's Status Uncertain After Leaving Game
Saturday, Oct. 1
Texas Football noted he was ruled out for the remainder of the Big 12 matchup due to the ailment.
Warren had 106 rushing yards on 10 carries in the contest before the injury.
He came into the game second on the team to D'Onta Foreman in rushing with 260 yards through three games. He'd also tallied three touchdowns.
The sophomore has dealt with some ankle problems since joining the Longhorns. He was forced into a walking boot early last season with an ankle issue, and another one impacted him in August. Neither setback caused him to miss a significant amount of action, though.
The severity of Saturday's knee injury wasn't immediately clear. But Hayden Kyle Barber of O'Colly Sports did provide some further information:
Texas will turn to Freeman to handle a vast majority of the backfield work for as long as Warren is out. It could also lead to some additional opportunities for Kyle Porter and Tristian Houston.
That said, Warren's powerful running style will be tough to replace, especially in the red zone. An extended absence would be a serious setback for the Texas ground game.
