Tim Williams Arrested: Latest Details, Mugshot, Comments and Reaction
Alabama senior linebacker Tim Williams was arrested early Thursday on a misdemeanor charge of carrying a pistol without a permit.
Charlie Potter of 247Sports reported the University of Alabama Police Department made the arrest and set bond at $300. BamaHammer.com passed along the defender's mugshot:
Williams posted a message on social media Thursday morning:
Alabama head coach Nick Saban released a statement on the arrest, via Potter:
"This kind of behavior is not condoned in our program. We are currently in the process of reviewing all of the information. Once we have a complete understanding of the situation, we will determine what we need to do in terms of the appropriate discipline.
"
Matt Zenitz of AL.com provided further details about the arrest, noting an officer first smelled marijuana coming from the linebacker's vehicle. A passenger claimed responsibility for the marijuana, but a search of the car uncovered a pistol under the driver's seat, sources told Zenitz.
Williams is a starter as a "Jack" outside linebacker for the Crimson Tide defense.
He's registered six total tackles, three quarterback hurries, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble during the national championship contender's 4-0 start to the campaign.
Although those are modest numbers, the amount of focus opposing offenses have exerted on slowing him down has allowed the team's other pass-rushers, led by Jonathan Allen and Ryan Anderson, to shine. It's the type of impact that doesn't always show up in the box score.
In addition, Williams has been generating a lot of buzz for the 2017 NFL draft. CBSSports.com lists him as the No. 7 overall player and the top outside linebacker in the class.
It's unclear whether Thursday's incident could force him to miss any game action. No. 1 Alabama hosts Kentucky on Saturday night before embarking on a difficult three-game stretch featuring road trips to No. 20 Arkansas and No. 11 Tennessee followed by a home clash against No. 9 Texas A&M.
