WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from September 28

Erik BeastonSep 29, 2016

Samoa Joe made good on his promise to wreak havoc in NXT if he was not handed the brand's world championship Wednesday night and, in the process, earned himself "biggest winner" recognition from the broadcast.

Prior to a match pitting NXT tag team champions The Revival against newcomers The Ealy Brothers, Joe stomped past Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder and pummeled the fresh-faced Ealys, leaving them in a heap in the center of the ring.

It was loud and clear message to fans, Superstars and general manager William Regal that the Joe who exists today is a much more dangerous, ruthless and unforgiving man than we have ever seen before. And that is a very good thing.

As outstanding as Joe has been over the last six months, he has lacked that edginess and air of danger that once made him one of the most sought-after stars in the industry. Having rediscovered that, he has the opportunity to enjoy one last truly great run as one of the faces of wrestling's most acclaimed brand.

Winner: Tye Dillinger

Long one of the proficient wrestlers in all of NXT, The Perfect 10 has been overshadowed and passed by on so many occasions, by so many different competitors, that one cannot help but be excited for him following Wednesday's show.

After dispatching Angelo Dawkins in impressive and dominant fashion, the Canadian competitor was approached by a fellow countryman, Bobby Roode, and made an offer he could not refuse.

With The Dusty Rhodes Classic on the horizon, Roode offered Dillinger the opportunity to be his tag team partner and potentially win the entire tournament. Not one to miss out on a chance to prove his nickname fitting, Dillinger accepted, and the most entertaining team of the entire tournament was formed.

If he plays his cards right, Dillinger could well find himself on the receiving end of the push that has eluded him for the majority of his career. For that reason alone, he is one of Wednesday's biggest winners.

Loser: Liv Morgan

There was a point shortly after Bayley left for the main roster in August when it looked like Liv Morgan may be one of NXT's brightest young female stars. With an undeniable energy and a look that separated her from her peers, she had the foundation for a formidable babyface act.

Sure, her in-ring work needed a ton of work, but experience helps curb any rough patches or early stumbling blocks.

Wednesday night, Morgan came crashing back to reality, courtesy of a one-sided beatdown at the hands of Asuka. Losing to the NXT women's champion in just 33 seconds, she was humbled and reassured that a significant push is not coming her way anytime soon.

The only silver lining for Morgan was the fact that, after the defeat, heels Billie Kay and Peyton Royce poked fun at her in a backstage vignette, suggesting she may soon be positioned as an underdog babyface forced to battle the more experienced second-tier heels in the promotion.

Winner: Hideo Itami

Japanese star Hideo Itami continued his impressive comeback Wednesday night as he battled Lince Dorado in the show's main event.

Not only did he withstand the onslaught of the talented cruiserweight competitor, Itami fought back and put him away with Go To Sleep. It was a statement win for Itami on his march toward a showdown with Austin Aries, presumably at TakeOver: Toronto this November.

Speaking of Aries, he attempted to lay out Itami after the match, but the international sensation fended him off and cleared the ring to a massive pop.

Once written off after a severe shoulder injury and passed over by Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura and Roode, Itami has made it clear he is back and ready to redefine his role with the brand.
