WWE Hell in a Cell 2016: Full Card Predictions After Clash of Champions PPV

Ryan DilbertSep 26, 2016

WWE Hell in a Cell 2016 is poised to be the continuation of several stories thatĀ Clash of Champions left unfinished.

Sami Zayn didn't take down Chris Jericho on Raw's first brand-exclusive pay-per-view since the July draft. Brian Kendrick refused to accept his loss to T.J. Perkins with humility. The collision between Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins ended in controversy, confusion and a stack of questions.

All that will spell Clash of Champions rematches galore when WWE unveils Hell in a Cell on Oct. 30.Ā

WWE does have five weeks' worth of Raw in between the two events, so there will be time for new narratives to emerge as well. That's good news for fans of Enzo Amore and others who are likely to benefit from titleholders seeking new challengers.

The following is a projection of the Hell in a Cell card, based on current storyline arcs and recent booking patterns.Ā

T.J. Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick vs. Cedric Alexander (Cruiserweight Title)

1 of 7

T.J. Perkins kicked off his Cruiserweight Championship reign with a win over the veteranĀ Brian Kendrick on Sunday's PPV.

After Perkins bested the No. 1 contender, he tried to show him respect. The champĀ offered to shake his opponent's hand; Kendrick headbutted him instead.

That is a sign that this feud is sure to continue at Hell in a Cell. It should. The calendar forced WWE to rush the build for this bout. Perkins hasn't even appeared on Raw yet.

Kendrick will seek Perkins' title once more, but WWE will want to introduce more of the new cruiserweight division. That'sĀ Cedric Alexander's cue. The electric performer would add a great dynamic to this match and allow WWE to show off more than just two cruiserweights at a time.

Nia Jax vs. Bayley

2 of 7

Nia Jax feasted on Alicia Fox at Clash of Champions. It's time for the powerhouse toĀ move up the food chain.

Jax has now beaten Fox twice. She has taken out every enhancement talent WWE has thrown at her. Increasing the quality of her opponent is a must.

Bayley is a likely candidate to try to fell the beast next.

She and Jax have history during their NXT days when the heel tried to take Bayley's women's title from her. WWE is bound to transfer this rivalry to the main roster, especially now that Bayley is set to slide out ofĀ the title picture for the time being after losing in a Triple Threat match at Clash of Champions.

In time, Bayley will climb to a contender's role again. At Hell in a Cell, she will have to settle for being Jax's steppingstone.

The New Day vs. Enzo Amore and Big Cass (Tag Team Championship)

3 of 7

At Clash of Champions, The New Day made it past Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson once more.Ā

Xavier Woods assured his team the victory when he nailed Anderson with his trombone, Francesca II. That suggests that the animosity between these two squads isn't over, but it's hard to imagine The Club actually taking the titles from the champs.

WWE has neverĀ treated Gallows and Anderson like real threats. They have been failed comedians and The New Day's punching bags.

Meanwhile, WWE has a red-hot team inĀ Enzo Amore and Big Cass floundering in a rivalry with The Shining Stars. There is no need to waste that bout on a PPV. Amore and Cass can beat up on Epico and Primo on Raw.

Then a more compelling showdown will be ready to go for the Hell in a Cell PPV and beyond.

Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho II

4 of 7

Sami Zayn and Chris Jericho's Clash of Champions meeting felt like the first of many.Ā This wasn't a climactic, throw-everything-at-each-other bout, but instead a precursor to the chapters ahead.

Jericho knocked down the babyface on Sunday, besting with him thanks to a Codebreaker.

The Underdog from the Underground will get additional chances, though, including one at Hell in a Cell. This isĀ a rivalry designed to elevate Zayn and to create a new star by way of riding an established one. That can't happen without wins like the one Zayn is likely to nab on Oct. 30.

Expect a pattern much like Jericho's rivalry with AJ Styles that stretched on from January to April.

Charlotte vs. Dana Brooke (Women's Championship)

5 of 7

Charlotte survived againstĀ Sasha Banks and Bayley at Clash of Champions. En route to that battle, the spotlight was often onĀ Dana Brooke and the champ's tenuous relationship.

Brooke tried to aid her mentor but continually got in the way. Her efforts earned her a slap in the face and continued disrespect. That eventually will lead to Brooke breaking away from Charlotte, opening the door for a babyface run from her.

As forĀ Banks and Bayley, chances are they step aside for the time being.

WWE can't book a variation of the same match for every PPV. It's a safe bet that the company saves future clashes between these Superstars for later shows.

And more and more, it's clear that WWE is high on Brooke, wanting her to have every opportunity to succeed. For someone as raw as her, she gets a surprising amount of airtime and has been latched onto the champ since early in her main-roster tenure.

Roman Reigns vs. Luke Harper (United States Championship)

6 of 7

After taking out Rusev, Roman Reigns is the new United States champion.

His win at Clash of Champions didn't come with the typical shenanigans and foreshadowing that would signal this rivalry rolling on for a long time. Instead, Reigns conquered the powerhouse, and it would not be surprising to see him move on before the next PPV.

WWE has five weeks to wrap up any loose ends Reigns has with The Bulgarian Brute.

Then it will be time to welcome back a monster. The former Wyatt Family goonĀ Luke Harper is set to return after suffering a serious knee injury in March.

The company recently cleared Harper to compete, per Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet.

Inserting him into the U.S. title picture right away would generate momentum for Harper. It would also allow WWE to drop a feud between Reigns and Rusev that never clicked the way it should have.

Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins (Hell in a Cell for the Universal Championship)

7 of 7

Hell in a Cell's safest bet is that Seth Rollins will challenge Kevin Owens again.

No match on the Clash of Champions card left as many unanswered questions as the Universal Championship bout. Owens only won because Chris Jericho ambushed The Architect. Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon seemed to be involved in a conspiracy against Rollins.

And Triple H, the man who created this feud by attacking Rollins weeks ago, hasn't fully stepped into the story since.

Rollins is bound to demand a fair title match against Owens, one that doesn't include Jericho taking cheap shots. TheĀ Hell in a Cell structure would assure he gets one, at least in theory.

With so many moving parts to this rivalry and it having so far to go, it most certainly will continue at Hell in a Cell, where steel and the spotlight will await Owens and Rollins.
