Manchester United Transfer News: Top Rumours, Latest Stars Linked to Red Devils

Manchester United's midfield could be in for a major shake up in 2017 following reports Leicester City would only sell Danny Drinkwater to his former club if Morgan Schneiderlin moves in exchange. Also, Bastian Schweinsteiger is on Paris Saint-Germain's radar.

Drinkwater has been recently linked with a return to the club he departed for Leicester in 2012, but Steve Bates of the Sunday People reported Leicester only want a deal if Schneiderlin comes in the opposite direction.

United manager Jose Mourinho may well be tempted to agree such a swap deal judging by the fact the Portuguese tactician is yet to start Schneiderlin in any of the midfielder's four appearances so far this season.

Drinkwater, on the other hand, has remained an integral piece of the Leicester puzzle after winning the Premier League title last season. The BBC's John Bennett even picked the 26-year-old out for praise after the Foxes were crushed 4-1 by Drinkwater's old club on Saturday:

According to Bates, Drinkwater is valued at around £20 million, although Schneiderlin may no longer hold that worth, despite the fact he moved to Old Trafford for a figure of £25 million in the summer of 2015.

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri recently underlined his club has no intention of cashing in on one of their most prized assets, adding Drinkwater's contract has no release clause present, via Sky Sports News HQ:

The England international first joined the Red Devils academy at the age of nine and spent his formative years developing at Carrington before leaving to join the Foxes in 2012, having failed to make a senior United appearance.

Four years later and the suggested swap deal could see Drinkwater stage a dramatic return to his boyhood team, and talkSPORT's Pilib de Brun has voiced his belief the engine-room anchor would be an upgrade:

Meanwhile, the Daily Star's Steve Morgan reported French giants PSG may be willing to bail Schweinsteiger out of his Old Trafford limbo in January with a "token offer" of around £1.5 million.

The former Germany international rakes in wages of £180,000 a week at United, and the club would undoubtedly be eager to rid his salary from their bill, although German football writer Clark Whitney doesn't see the value:

Morgan added the Red Devils has "already put the German down as a loss" in their accounting, and Mourinho appears adamant not to utilise the 32-year-old after sending him to train with the reserves over the summer.

A spell at United was supposed to be Schweinsteiger's European swansong, but the midfielder may consider an expedition with cash-rich PSG after seeing his career trajectory suffer a setback in his year at Old Trafford.
