NBPA Monitoring Heat's Treatment of Bosh

Friday, Oct. 14

Winderman reported the NBPA is keeping an eye on how the Heat deal with Bosh:

"

The National Basketball Players Association is monitoring the Miami Heat's approach with sidelined Chris Bosh, including the possibility of the team keeping the All-Star power forward on the roster long enough to prevent him from becoming playoff eligible for another team.

A party familiar with the NBPA's approach on Friday told the Sun Sentinel that the union is examining the situation, while also remaining cognizant of the ongoing medical and privacy issues with Bosh, who failed his preseason physical after missing the second half of the past two seasons due to blood clots.

Riley Reveals Bosh's Future with Heat

Monday, Sept. 26

Heat president Pat Riley announced Monday that Bosh's career with the Heat is over and that they are not working toward his potential return, according to the Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman:

"

We are not. I think Chris is still open-minded. But we are not working toward his return.

We feel that, based on the last exam, that his Heat career is probably over. ...

It's pretty definitive from us, in our standpoint, that this is probably going to be a time where we really have to step back.

His health, playing and economics -- it's been health, health, health. Whatever the cap ramifications are, they are there, but we never ever thought about that.

Bosh Fails Physical, Not Cleared for Training Camp

Friday, Sept. 23

The Associated Press' Tim Reynolds relayed the update.

Citing a source, the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson reported, "A complication has arisen in medical tests involving Heat forward Chris Bosh, derailing his attempted comeback."

Specifically, Jackson wrote that there is "evidence of some continued clotting and is believed to be related to one of two previous blood clot episodes."

Jackson added that while the clots are not considered life-threatening, Bosh will need to be back on medication and playing with them is "unrealistic."

According to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski, the "Heat increasingly believe Chris Bosh's career with franchise is over. For months, Bosh hasn't wanted to speak with Pat Riley."

The Heat released a statement on Bosh:

"

The Miami HEAT and Chris Bosh, in consultation with team doctors and other physicians, have been working together for many months with the mutual goal of having Chris return to the court as soon as possible. Chris has now taken his pre-season physical. The Miami HEAT regret that it remains unable to clear Chris to return to basketball activities, and there is no timetable for his return.

Bosh's Blood Clots Could Force Heat to Lean on Group of Veteran Power Forwards

According to Jackson, Bosh was first diagnosed with a blood clot that traveled from his leg to his lung in February 2015 before another was discovered in his calf 53 games into the 2015-16 season.

"Seeing the team doctors, they told me that my season's over, my career is probably over, and, yeah, this just happens, this is just how it is," Bosh said of last season's events on UNINTERRUPTED.

However, Bosh remained optimistic that he would be able to fight back and return to the floor: "If a doctor tells me, 'Hey, that's it, and this is how it is,' and I don't buy that, I think that I have the right to disagree with you. I know inside me I have a lot of talent and a lot of ability. And I have it. I know I have it. It wasn't a matter of if I'm going to play again; it's when. So, we took the bull by the horns."

With Bosh not cleared to return, the Heat will lean on a platoon of veterans to pick up the slack alongside center Hassan Whiteside in the frontcourt.

Head coach Erik Spoelstra figures to deploy Josh McRoberts, Derrick Williams and Udonis Haslem at the 4.
