Manchester City Transfer News: Leonardo Bonucci, Vincent Kompany, Latest Rumours
Manchester City could be set to renew their interest in Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci in January after captain Vincent Kompany appeared to suffer another injury setback on Wednesday.
According to the Sun's Martin Blackburn, Citizens boss Pep Guardiola admires the Italian and was interested in signing him over the summer, but with Juve asking for £50 million and Kompany making a positive recovery from injury, a deal never materialised.
However, in his first game back, against Swansea City on Wednesday, the Belgian walked off the pitch in injury time, footage shared by Sky Sports News HQ:

According to Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News, the defender seemed to dismiss concern over his fitness:
However, per Blackburn, City are "awaiting results of a scan—but the fear is he has a hamstring problem which will mean several weeks on the sidelines."
As noted by football journalist Kristof Terreur prior to the Swansea match, Kompany has rarely featured for the Sky Blues of late:
According to Transfermarkt, the Belgian has missed 73 matches for the club because of injury since January 2013 and made just 14 Premier League appearances last season.
When fit, Kompany is an outstanding defender but can no longer be relied upon—unlike Bonucci.
The 29-year-old has developed into one of the world's best central defenders during his time with the Bianconeri and has held down a regular place in their starting lineup for six years.
According to Squawka, in his three Serie A matches with Juve so far this season, he's already made 10 interceptions and clearances apiece, as well as winning an average of three tackles and two headed duels, all while maintaining an 87 per cent passing accuracy.
Per Blackburn, Bonucci admitted the idea of playing under Guardiola was tempting: "I did give it some thought. Guardiola’s insistence destabilised me a little. I did not speak to Pep directly—it was just an exchange of thoughts with my agent. It was tempting, but I decided to follow my heart in the end."
As revealed by David Amoyal, a translator for renowned journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, City were prepared to spend big on him:
Bonucci is evidently content in Turin, though, so even a large offer may not be enough to persuade him to leave or Juventus to sell.
Their only chance may be if he decides to pursue a new challenge. In that case, Guardiola's presence at City could be a decisive factor in luring him to the Etihad Stadium.

Meanwhile, Yaya Toure is hoping to remain in England if he leaves City in January, according to the Sun's Jamie Gordon.
Toure's future at the the club appears over, but the 33-year-old does not wish to "uproot his family," who have settled in Cheshire.
The Ivorian may need to take a hefty pay cut if he is to leave City, though—even in the Premier League, most clubs would struggle to pay him £220,000 per week. And at his age, very few would be willing to do so.
