Thomas Davis, Tre Boston, Greg Olsen Discuss Unrest in Charlotte

Alec NathanSep 22, 2016

Carolina Panthers teammates Thomas Davis, Tre Boston and Greg Olsen discussed the unrest Thursday that has enveloped Charlotte, North Carolina, since Keith Lamont Scott was shot and killed by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer Tuesday.

After Gov. Pat McCrory declared a state of emergency Wednesday night following protests that turned violent, per Jaweed Kaleem of the Los Angeles Times, Davis and Boston urged Charlotte residents to express their displeasure peacefully.

"For anyone out there listening to me now, this is not the way to fix the problem," Davis said, according to WCNC.com's Nick Carboni

"Tragic," Boston added. "People are trying to stand for something. There’s different ways to do it. Some people are trying to do it their way; some people are trying to do it peacefully."

With a game against the Minnesota Vikings looming Sunday, Olsen expressed optimism that the contest could help unite the community as it grapples with political and social unrest.

"Those people sitting in the crowd are from all walks of life," he said, per Carboni. "For one afternoon, they all come together around the Panthers. As silly as it seems that we play a game, we all recognize that games can bring great peace."

On Thursday, the NFL released a statement confirming it has no plans to move Sunday's contest from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

"We are planning to play the game as scheduled on Sunday," the league's release read, per NFL.com. "We are monitoring events in Charlotte and have been in communication with local officials and authorities, and both the Carolina Panthers and the Minnesota Vikings."
