Luis Suarez Responds to Filipe Luis Instagram Post After Barcelona vs. Atletico

Rory MarsdenSep 21, 2016

Barcelona's Luis Suarez has hit back at Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis after the Brazilian posted an Instagram photo of his injured foot immediately after the two sides' 1-1 LaLiga draw on Wednesday.

Suarez was booked in the 84th minute at the Camp Nou after clashing with Luis, and the Brazilian posted a photo of his bloodied foot following the final whistle.

The Uruguayan striker responded by saying that what happens on the pitch should stay on the pitch, per Sport.

"Football is for men and what happened on the pitch stays on the pitch," Suarez said. "If every time someone got hit it was uploaded to Instagram this would turn into a circus. Football is for men, for men, I’m not going to be sending photos from each game."

Per Sport, Luis' Instagram post was captioned with a sarcastic "at least he didn't touch me":

Angel Correa's second-half strike on Wednesday earned Atleti a point at Barcelona after Ivan Rakitic had put the hosts ahead just before half-time.

It was a typically feisty clash between the two title contenders, with six players picking up bookings—including Luis—but nobody was sent off.

In the corresponding fixture in 2015-16, Luis was given his marching orders before half-time for a horror tackle on Lionel Messi—he eventually was handed a three-match ban for the foul.

Under a fair challenge from Diego Godin on Wednesday, Messi was forced from the pitch with an injury just before the hour and will now be sidelined for three weeks, per BBC Sport.

Suarez bemoaned the loss of the Argentinian superstar, as well as the fact that Barca dropped points against Atleti, per the Catalans' official website: "It was bad to lose Messi because he is so important. But it was also bad to draw at home. We are in Week 5, and this season is long. However, it would have been nice to reduce the gap with the leader."

With LaLiga leaders Real Madrid also dropping points on Wednesday against Villarreal, Barca remained three points back from the top of the table in third, while Atleti are one point further behind in fourth.

The Blaugrana's next match is at Sporting Gijon on Saturday, while Atleti host Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday.
