Rodgers' Injury Further Depleted Tampa Bay's Backfield
Rodgers spent the first four years of his career with the Atlanta Falcons, backing up Michael Turner and Steven Jackson. He missed only one game during those four seasons, rushing for 1,116 yards and five touchdowns.
After he signed with the Chicago Bears in 2015, Rodgers played only five games before being placed on injured reserve with a fractured arm.
The Buccaneers brought Rodgers in to provide depth in the backfield behind Doug Martin and Charles Sims. The 26-year-old saw his role expand following the hamstring injury that sidelined Martin and the knee injury that took Sims out of action.
Rodgers' injury was just another blow for Tampa Bay at a position where it needs the help.
As for Rodgers, though he has experience, he hasn't been a productive NFL running back, averaging 3.6 yards per carry entering the 2016 campaign.
