WWE Clash of Champions 2016: How to Fix Least-Promising Storylines So Far
With only four matches confirmed for WWE Clash of Champions 2016 on Sept. 25 and a fifth set to follow for the United States Championship, Raw is beginning to craft a solid card that will follow in the footsteps of the successful Backlash pay-per-view.
That said, some of the feuds are in need of tinkering in order to make Clash of Champions go off with a bang.
Luckily, the amount of intrigue and interest in the WWE Universal Championship match means that one bout doesn't need too much work, but here is how WWE can fix some of the other matches on the card.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Roman Reigns vs. Rusev
The expected United States Championship match between Roman Reigns and Rusev hasn't been locked in at the time of writing, but Rusev's return on Monday night should speed that process up.
Since Reigns has been temporarily in the WWE Universal Championship picture, there's not much to say about this feud at the moment. But there are constructive and proactive things WWE can do over the next two weeks to make this rivalry work.
The first is to move away from the talk of Reigns crashing Rusev's wedding celebration last month. That was a novel and interesting way to get the rivalry up and running, but WWE could exploit so much more now.
WWE should focus on how Rusev is determined to inflict as much pain on Reigns as possible after their match at SummerSlam was called off.
Aggression is where both of these guys excel. WWE should not be afraid to have them brawl, interrupt each other's matches and generally make life hell for each other.
Reigns should attack Rusev during a match on Raw next week. Rusev can reply with an assault backstage. WWE must make the tension between the two so intriguing that fans won't be able wait for their bout at Clash of Champions.
And that's another key element here: WWE needs to make the fans wait. If Reigns and Rusev attack each other in turn time and again, there will be an element of desperation to see them battle at Clash of Champions.
Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho
Whether this feud is temporary or runs for the next few months, it could prove to be one of the most intriguing feuds on the Clash of Champions card.
The work Chris Jericho has done over the last few months has been revered and is further proof that he is one of the best at his job in WWE.
His newly created rivalry with Sami Zayn should take little imagination, given how creative Jericho can be, but it would be great to see Zayn talk more about how he grew up idolizing Jericho rather than keep talking about Kevin Owens.
Both men know Owens well, with Jericho purporting to be his best friend, something Zayn can also vouch for throughout his wrestling career.
But having too much attention on Owens in the storyline will detract from the two competitors, so this should be booked as Zayn's personal road to redemption, similar to what happened to him in NXT.
He was cast aside as WWE handpicked Owens to move into the Universal Championship picture, so Zayn's own quest for success should begin with him aiming to take down one of his childhood heroes.
Zayn should reference it over and over again. Both men are excellent on the microphone, and this has all the hallmarks of a great feud, but a couple of tweaks to the storyline won't do it any harm.
The New Day vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson
This feud has failed to deliver so far because of the booking of Gallows and Anderson.
When they entered WWE earlier this year, they did so as one of the most respected tag teams in professional wrestling.
Yet in recent weeks, and especially throughout this feud with The New Day, they've been booked as comedy characters, trying to make poor jokes that only hurt their gimmick.
It's time to get the duo back as an unstoppable force, and the first signs of that were evident this past Monday on Raw when they beat New Day.
WWE should let them run riot over some other teams on the roster between now and Sept. 25, building them up as a credible force and making them look like future tag team champions.
Furthermore, WWE should have the interactions between the two teams, or at least how often they wrestle each other, be practically nonexistent. It made little sense for the teams to collide on Raw when the title match is coming up at Clash of Champions.
