Louisville QB Lamar Jackson Opens Game with Passing and Rushing Touchdowns
The University of Louisville loves quick starts—literally.
Cardinals quarterback Lamar Jackson wasted no time finding his nimbly named and flighty footed receiver, James Quick, in the opening seconds of Friday night's contest against Syracuse University.
After a play-action fake fooled the Orange defense, Jackson unloaded a 72-yard pass to his wide-open teammate, who jogged into the end zone for an easy score.
Next it was the signal-caller's turn to show off his wheels with some read-option.
Following a fake handoff, Jackson turned on the jets, breezing through attempted tackles and past defenders in pursuit for yet another Cardinals 72-yard touchdown—the squad's third in just five minutes.
Talk about a need for speed.
But Jackson wasn't done impressing.
Following the example of his school mascot, the quarterback took flight, hurdling over an oncoming defender in his red-zone run to the pylon.
A true triple threat: on the ground, through the air and in the air.
