Arsenal Transfer News: Latest on Jack Wilshere and Miguel Almiron Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenAug 30, 2016

AS Roma reportedly want to bring Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to Italy on a two-year loan deal, while rumours linking the Gunners with Miguel Almiron of Argentinian side Lanus are picking up fast.

According to TeleRadioStereo (h/t Football Italia), Roma and Arsenal have already opened negotiations regarding Wilshere, who could join Wojciech Szczesny in the Italian capital before the summer transfer window closes.

Arsenal want the midfielder to find more consistent playing time elsewhere, and Roma are said to be happy to oblige. Per the report, the Gunners would pay a large portion of his wages to make the deal work.

The two-year length could be a stumbling block, as the primary purpose behind the loan deal is to get Wilshere back in form and help him develop some consistency―he should be able to help out Arsenal in the near future.

Wilshere will likely have plenty of other offers, and per Dean Jones of Bleacher Report UK, he doesn't even have to leave the British capital:

The 24-year-old has long been touted as one of the most talented players Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger gets to work with, but constant injury concerns and a lack of consistency have held him back.

His career hasn't progressed the way Arsenal hoped it would, and following the arrival of Granit Xhaka this summer, a starting position no longer seems a possibility for the England international.

A loan move could help him get his career back on track, providing he can stay healthy and play consistent minutes. The former has always been an issue with Wilshere, and the latter is far from a guarantee in the Italian capital.

With the likes of Radja Nainggolan, Daniele De Rossi, Leandro Paredes and Kevin Strootman all battling for a starting position, the Giallorossi arguably have more depth and raw quality at the position than Arsenal do.

A move to another Premier League club or a team where competition for playing time is less fierce might be a good idea, as Wilshere sitting on the bench in Rome would defeat the purpose of the loan deal.

Meanwhile, Almiron's admission he'd love to play for the Gunners has triggered a wave of speculation, with the Sun (h/t Independent's Jack de Menezes) reporting Arsenal have been watching the Paraguayan.

During a recent interview with Goal Argentina (h/t the Daily Star's Jonathan Green), Almiron made it clear he's open to a move, saying: "It would be nice to play at Arsenal, but I still said nothing. Whoever manages that's my agent. For now I just think of Lanus."

The 22-year-old has the versatility to play in a wide role or behind a central striker, and he could even slide further back and effectively provide the depth the Gunners would lose should Wilshere leave on loan.

Here's a look at some of his highlights:

Per the report, Almiron is valued at £11 million after a solid showing for Paraguay in the Copa America Centenario. The Lanus man would be an investment for the future, as he's still quite raw and not nearly ready to be an impact contributor in the Premier League.

A move for the Paraguayan would take Arsenal's spending past the £100 million mark for the first time in club history, per De Menezes. The Gunners aren't expected to add any more players, however, and Almiron is more likely to stay in Argentina for now.
