Lucas Perez to Arsenal: Latest Transfer Details, Comments and Reaction

Christopher SimpsonAug 30, 2016

Arsenal have signed Deportivo La Coruna forward Lucas Perez, bringing an end to the Gunners' search for striking reinforcements.

The Gunners announced the deal on Tuesday, per their official website, and manager Arsene Wenger said: "He's not only a goalscorer, he's a guy who combines well with partners, who can give a final ball and makes good runs. He's got a good eye for goal and had an outstanding season last year."

Arsenal welcomed him to the club on Twitter:

Bleacher Report's Tom Kinslow commented on the Gunners' announcement process:

Sky Sports' Michael Kelleher reported the fee to be £17.1 million, with Arsenal meeting his buyout clause.

Perez has left Deportivo after two seasons and will be hoping to emulate his form from last year. The Spaniard enjoyed the best campaign of his career, racking up 19 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.

As WhoScored.com revealed, his vision and creativity stood out in LaLiga last season, as did his contributions in front of goal:

Here are some of the skills fans can look forward to seeing:

Spanish football journalist Sergi Dominguez is an admirer of his talents, while colleague Graham Hunter is eagerly anticipating his arrival at Arsenal:

Indeed, with the Gunners, he'll be surrounded by not only players who can finish off the chances he creates but also those with the vision and technical skills to forge plenty of opportunities for him—something he lacked at Deportivo.

At the Emirates Stadium, Perez should have plenty to feed off in the final third, and the team will finally have a viable partner for Olivier Giroud—or an alternative to him.

While he may not be the top-level striker Arsenal fans crave, in terms of goalscoring, he's an upgrade on the likes of Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck, Yaya Sanogo and Chuba Akpom.

Bringing in Perez will be far better than failing to recruit a centre-forward at all. He could prove to be a smart buy.
