Bleacher Report's Mike Chiari took positives and negatives away from Tuesday's announcement:
Brie Bella liked the look of the women's title belt:
Just as Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley created the Universal Championship to have a world champion on Raw, SmackDown couldn't go much longer without having a top prize for the women's and tag team divisions. Otherwise, tag team and women's wrestling would serve little purpose on the show.
Not everybody can challenge for a title at once, but the new belts will raise the stakes on SmackDown Live.
One unavoidable problem with the brand extension, though, is that WWE needed to create so many titles all at once. Fans might be getting burned out by seeing so many storylines built around crowning new champions.
SmackDown Live is also introducing two titles that have no historical significance. Before the Raw-SmackDown Live split, the company had a hard enough time generating interest in the United States, Intercontinental and WWE Tag Team Championships, all of which go back decades.
It may take time before fans begin warming to the SmackDown Tag Team and Women's Championships.
