Conor McGregor, Cruiserweights and More from the Call-Out Mailbag
Don't look now, but WWE's SummerSlam 2016 card is filling up. Pardon the Randy Orton pun, but it's like nine matches just happened outta nowhere. With just over a week until WWE's WrestleMania of the summer on August 21, SummerSlam just doesn't feel as grandiose.
Maybe it's Brock Lesnar. Maybe it's the fact that the two world championship matches could double as the semifinals in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's Battle of Los Angeles. The television ratings, per Showbuzz Daily (h/t Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc.), indicate that WWE is trying too hard to win the hardcore vote. Or maybe Conor McGregor has stolen the spotlight.

Conor: Artist
I don't think the UFC and WWE worked together on the Conor McGregor Twitter feud. This just looks like McGregor, an unpredictable loose cannon, going into business for himself. In fact, the only thing being worked was the WWE locker room.
I don't believe that McGregor feels they're all a bunch of...um, wussies. McGregor meticulously uses pro wrestling tactics to stand out, and now he's using them against WWE itself.
Interest has been tepid for McGregor's rematch against Nate Diaz following his antics leading up to their originally scheduled bout at UFC 200 on July 9. But after calling out the entire WWE locker room and getting some of the promotion's biggest stars to respond, McGregor and his high-profile rematch against Diaz have once again taken center stage.
Scores of WWE Superstars and even wrestling fans will be watching intently, hoping McGregor gets "what's coming to him." For an elite heel like McGregor, it's all in a day's work.
RKO-mentum
"@ThisIsNasty what next for orton and lesnar after summerslam?

That's a tricky question.
Both men are technically having their return matches at SummerSlam, which is usually a pivotal bout in terms of wins and losses. Losing a return match is typically rare, as it serves a critical blow to a wrestler's momentum.
One thing to consider is that Orton will be used more frequently going forward than Lesnar. Orton seems to have momentum on his side following Lesnar's highly publicized doping scandal—not to mention that he might be doing the best work of his career. Through a combination of funny, biting promos and embracing his "RKO outta nowhere" internet phenomenon, Orton is the most complete WWE Superstar he has ever been.
I see Orton defeating Lesnar at SummerSlam. But with Orton on the SmackDown brand, there are few options in terms of top heels to compete against moving forward. Perhaps Orton will work with Baron Corbin in a feud that could make the promising young prospect's career. Orton could also have an entertaining feud with Dolph Ziggler if he completes an apparent heel turn.
As far as Lesnar is concerned, he'll likely disappear for a few more months. With Lesnar on the Raw brand, I could see future feuds with Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns or even Braun Strowman.
Internet Cruiserweight Community
I'm sure it's happening already. Once the cruiserweight division invades Raw, I might take a break from Twitter.
WWE needs to do its best to keep the cruiserweights separate from everything else to preserve the sanctity of the title. When the cruiserweights were hitting on all cylinders in WCW, it was because they were presented as their own alternative brand. It could be argued that the Cruiserweight Championship was the second-most important title for a while.
But once WCW intermingled cruiserweights with the heavyweights, the title, and eventually the division itself, became an afterthought.
The problem with this type of integration is it will only benefit one or two cruiserweights. The rest will fall by the wayside. This is what happened when Rey Mysterio began feuding with Kevin Nash in a program that began with great promise, only to see Mysterio eventually crash back to earth.
It's not worth it to mortgage an entire division and feature one or two cruiserweights who already have a glass ceiling. Let the division speak for itself, and it will steal the show on a weekly basis. No heavyweights needed.
