WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from August 10

Erik BeastonAug 11, 2016

Mojo Rawley has long been one of the most scrutinized Superstars in NXT due to the grating nature of his character. He achieved "biggest winner" status Wednesday night, though, for what was arguably the best performance of his career.

Rawley was intense in his assault of NXT champion Samoa Joe from the opening bell, coming across as a competitor naturally unleashing furious anger on an opponent rather than the cartoon character that defined his on-screen persona for so long.

While that may seem like a mild step forward, it suggests Rawley understands what he needs to alter about his performances if he wishes to be a star on SmackDown every Tuesday night.

He may not have won, falling prey to the Coquina Clutch, but the former Arizona Cardinal made enormous strides as an in-ring performer in the process. If he can take what worked so well in that brief four-minute contest and implement it going forward, Rawley could find himself receiving more television time and attention on the blue brand.

Winner: Bayley

Even the sweetest, nicest people have their breaking points. Fans witnessed this Wednesday when Bayley introduced a meaner, more serious side of herself in preparation for the war she will wage with Asuka over the NXT Women's Championship.

No longer content to allow her peers to walk all over her, Bayley rejected a sign of respect and ensured the champion that she is coming to take back the title she lost in Dallas.

It was a much-needed change for Bayley. As much of an idol as she is to young girls and as appealing as she is to audiences everywhere, she was lacking that aggression that separates nice midcard acts from legitimate main event Superstars.

Now more focused and determined, Bayley is a more compelling character than she ever has been.

Loser: Andrade "Cien" Almas

It feels like every time Almas wrestles on an episode of NXT, he ends up achieving "biggest loser" status. That was no different this week, as his blandness and horrendous choice in ring gear were enhanced by the arrival of Bobby Roode, who has more natural charisma in his thumb than Almas does without the benefit of his mask.

No matter how hard commentators Corey Graves and Tom Phillips try to sell Almas as the future of the brand nor how much management attempts to put him in high-profile matches to earn him some credibility, fans have rejected him for reasons that are readily apparent.

The male stripper gear being just one of them.

Winner: Billie Kay

Billie Kay continued to build momentum for herself Wednesday with a victory over Liv Morgan. Morgan stood out, an energetic babyface providing fresh blood to a rebuilding women's division, but it was Kay who shined. Though a much more methodical worker, Kay looks like a star, perhaps because she presents herself as one.

The big boot finisher is fresh and unique for a female competitor. Typically the weapon of choice for slow, sluggish male Superstars, Kay has introduced it to her arsenal and made it her own.

An Australian competitor whose resume includes championship reigns and considerable success in the all-women's promotion SHIMMER, Kay has the opportunity to become the central heel in NXT's women's division and the top contender to either Bayley or Asuka post-TakeOver.
