What They're Saying
While Jones was once considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, his time at the top has undoubtedly passed. Even so, he remains a draw, particularly in his hometown.
According to ESPN.com's Dan Rafael, Jones is looking forward to fighting in Pensacola for the first time since knocking out Paul Vasquez there last year: "I'm always excited to be fighting in front of my hometown fans who have shown me so much support during my career, and I am looking forward to giving them an action-packed fight."
Jones is as active as ever in the ring, as Saturday's fight will mark his sixth since the start of 2015. Even so, every fight could potentially mark the end of the line as he nears the age of 50.
Per Bill Vilona of the Pensacola News Journal, manager McGee Wright admitted that Jones' hometown would be an ideal place for his client to go out: "He wants to end his career in Pensacola at some point. I'm not saying this is his last fight but he started here, and he wants to end it here."
It isn't out of the question that Jones could have 10 more fights left in him, but the fact that his next one is in Pensacola means the end of the line is possible.
Due to that fact and the potential for fireworks in the form of a knockout, Saturday's bout is one that fans of Jones won't want to miss.
Prediction
Moore has a seven-year age advantage over Jones, but the fight looks like a huge mismatch in favor of Jones on paper.
Not only is Jones a far more accomplished boxer—he has enjoyed more recent success as well.
Jones is 9-1 in his past 10 fights, with the only loss coming against Enzo Maccarinelli of Wales last year.
Moore, on the other hand, has lost nine consecutive decisions. He hasn't won a fight since 2002, as he was out of boxing from 2006 until 2012.
One thing working in Moore's favor is that only one of his 11 career losses have come by way of knockout. Having a strong chin should serve him well against one of the most explosive punchers of the era.
However, each of Jones' past seven fights have ended in a knockout or stoppage of some kind, and it's clear that he wants to provide his hometown fans with some excitement.
Jones has the luxury of hunting for a knockout with his edge in talent, and he will get one to send the crowd into a frenzy.
Prediction: Jones wins via second-round KO
