Besic Set for Long-Term Layoff
Friday, Aug. 5
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international hobbled out of the Toffees’ clash with Manchester United ahead of the new Premier League campaign. And as reported by Sky Sports News HQ, he is set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines:
Besic reacted to the news via his Twitter account:
"6 months out! #devastated pic.twitter.com/0jg3w3OP9k
— MoBesic (@Mo_Besic) August 5, 2016"
The midfielder has been dogged by injury problems since arriving at Everton from Ferencvaros in the summer of 2014.
Besic only made seven starts for the Toffees in the Premier League last term, and while he impressed when he did feature, his poor fortune with fitness prevented him from nailing down a regular spot in the starting XI at Goodison Park.
At his best, the 23-year-old is a handy player to have in the squad. Besic is a rounded midfielder, able to break up play, carry the ball forward and pick passes in advanced areas; he also brings an aggression to the middle of the park few other players in the Everton squad can match.
Indeed, new Toffees manager Ronald Koeman will be delighted to have brought in Idrissa Gueye from Aston Villa to stiffen up this area of the field, while Gareth Barry and James McCarthy are both dependable options in the engine room.
Besic has shown enough since moving to the Premier League to suggest the potential is there for him to be a big hit in the division. The motivation to prove himself should be at the forefront of the player’s mind as he starts his recovery.
