Nationals Turn MLB's First 3-3-5 Triple Play in Win over Giants
The Washington Nationals defeated the San Francisco Giants 4-1 at AT&T Park on Friday night, and their win came with the help of a very special triple play.
According to Jamal Collier of MLB.com, the Nats turned the first 3-3-5 triple play in MLB history (and also the first triple play in franchise history).
With the bases loaded and no one out in the eighth inning, Nats first baseman Ryan Zimmerman caught a line drive off the bat of Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford. Zimmerman stepped on first to double off Buster Posey, then he threw to third to nail Denard Span as well.

"Once I caught it, I knew I had the double play, and I looked up and [third baseman Anthony Rendon]'s jumping up and down with a smile on his face," Zimmerman said, per Collier. "So I just tossed the ball over to him and got out of a jam. Just like that."
Just like that—history.
