PGA Championship 2016 Picks
Naturally, Johnson is an early favorite to win the PGA Championship, opening at 8-1 odds, according to Odds Shark.
The American, who also won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, had come so close to winning a major championship in recent years, including ties for second place at the 2011 Open Championship and 2015 U.S. Open, before sealing the deal at Oakmont Country Club in June.
The PGA Tour shared his recent stats:
However, Johnson will have plenty of competition in this year's PGA Championship field.
Don't underestimate Day, the winner of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the WGC-Dell Match Play and The Players Championship.
Day is riding a hot streak. "Seven of his 10 PGA Tour wins have come in the last 12 months, including his victory in the 2015 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, his first major win," according to T.J. Auclair of PGA.com.
Though he's opening with 9-1 odds, McIlroy, the 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship winner, is something of an underdog. He's winless on the PGA Tour this year, though he will be looking for the fifth major win of his career at Baltusrol this week.
Other players to watch include major champions Willett (Masters) and Stenson (The Open).
The Open was Stenson's first major win, but it could give him some crucial momentum heading into the PGA Championship.
Bubba Watson, who won the Northern Trust Open, was the runner-up at the 2010 PGA Championship and is looking to prove himself at Baltusrol.
Predicted winner: Johnson. It's hard to beat his momentum and confidence right now.
