Aly Raisman Named Captain of 2016 US Women's Olympic Gymnastic Team

For the second consecutive Summer Olympics, the United States women's gymnastics team will be captained by Aly Raisman, it was announced Saturday.

USA Gymnastics revealed on Twitter that Raisman will lead a team that also includes defending Olympic all-around gold medalist Gabby Douglas and three-time reigning all-around world champion Simone Biles, as well as Madison Kocian and Laurie Hernandez.

Raisman and the United States won team gold at the 2012 London Games, and they will look to repeat that feat next month in Rio de Janeiro.

At 22 years of age, Raisman is the eldest member of Team USA. She also has a long and impressive track record of success on the world's biggest stages.

Along with her team gold, Raisman won gold in floor exercise and bronze on the balance beam four years ago in London.

She is also a four-time medalist at the world championships, and she finished second to Biles in the individual all-around at this year's Pacific Rim Championships.

The Massachusetts native finished in a virtual tie for bronze with Russia's Aliya Mustafina in the all-around at the 2012 Summer Olympics but ended up fourth via a tiebreaker.

Raisman is among the best all-around gymnasts in the world. Her experience makes her an ideal choice to help spearhead the United States' efforts in Brazil as it tries to win team gold for the second straight Olympics and third time overall.
