Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Rumours, Players and Signings Linked to Reds
Liverpool are reportedly preparing to launch a big-money bid for Schalke 04 starlet Max Meyer, according to German newspaper Bild (via Aaron Flanagan of Daily Mirror).
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder is one of the most highly rated players in German football and has quickly become one of the first names on Schalke’s teamsheet.
He enjoyed a coming-of-age campaign in 2015/16, when he made 32 league appearances. In that time, he scored five goals and set up six more, but there’s more to his game than statistics.

Meyer’s intelligent movement defies his tender 20 years, as the way he makes space for his team-mates is sensational.
Here’s a look at some of the youngster highlights from last term:
So, it’s no real surprise to learn that the Reds are lining up a £28 million offer to secure Meyer’s services.
And fans have plenty of cause for optimism in their hunt for his signature. Back in June, the Schalke star revealed that England would be his destination of choice if he left his boyhood club, as reported by Jack Bezants of MailOnline: “If I left Schalke and was going to play football in any other league in Europe I would like to move to England.”

Plus, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is said to be a fan of Meyer, according to Flanagan, and although Schalke will do all in their power to keep him in Germany, the Reds boss won’t be easily deterred.
There's bad news for Liverpool elsewhere, though, as target Ben Chilwell looks to have decided to stay at Leicester City.
John Percy of the Daily Telegraph writes that the Reds put a £7 million offer on the table for the highly rated full-back, but he wants to stay with the Premier League champions.
Chilwell is expected to sign a new five-year deal at the King Power Stadium in the coming days, which means Liverpool will need to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.
When Klopp became Liverpool manager, he inherited a side in desperate need of a shake-up. Now, though, the German is slowly but surely forging an outfit capable of challenging at the top of the Premier League.
The Reds kick off their 2016/17 campaign with a tough-looking trip to the Emirates Stadium on August 14.
