Darts World Matchplay 2016: Quarter-Finals Results, Standings, Draw and Fixtures
Michael van Gerwen made it to the semi-finals of the Darts World Matchplay 2016 after beating Dave Chisnall at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, England, on Thursday.
The Dutchman strolled to a 16-9 win, and he now meets Adrian Lewis in the last four. Lewis defeated Peter Wright in a marathon 16-14 victory.
Both Van Gerwen and Lewis were in total control of their matches, but each player took his foot off the gas and produced an unconvincing performance.
However, neither player was excessively tested and will now meet for a place in the final.
Here are Thursday's results and the forthcoming schedule:
| Adrian Lewis def. Peter Wright | 16-14 |
| Michael van Gerwen def. Dave Chisnall | 16-9 |
| Friday, July 22 | Mervyn King v Phil Taylor |
| Gary Anderson v Steve Beaton |

MvG In Third Gear During Last-Eight Win
It was an easy day at the office in Blackpool for Mighty Mike as the mercurial Dutch wizard skipped past the world-class talent of Chisnall.
Former World Championship runner-up Chizzy appeared flat and disheartened for most of the match before a late rally almost turned the tide.
Van Gerwen raced to a 5-1 lead in the tie as his opponent struggled to remain composed. Chizzy appeared out of form and beaten early on, allowing the Dutchman to take his foot off the accelerator.
Chisnall missed two darts for double top to snatch a leg back, but the St Helens superstar was found wanting at crucial moments.
The score reached 7-2 as MvG teased a nine-dart finish, but the eventual winner also appeared to be lacking his usual motivation in the longer format.
Chizzy mounted his comeback at 9-2 and suddenly looked like himself with his back against the wall. He battled back to 12-7, with the trophy holder clearly irritated and the crowd sensing a shock.
In inimitable style, Van Gerwen took a stranglehold of the game, and despite further resistance from Chisnall, he completed the win with a 16-9 victory.
3 Dart Analyst provided the vital stats:
In the first quarter-final of the night, Lewis suffered a scare against Wright in a long and arduous match that only came alive in the latter stages.
Lewis took a 4-2 lead as his opponent stuttered, and it seemed it would be a comfortable night for the Stoke-on-Trent maestro.
Wright began to chip away at Jackpot's defences as the pace of the match slowed, and he dragged the tie back to 8-8 as Lewis feared a surprise loss. Wright missed a gold opportunity in the 20th leg to go ahead with a finish on the bull, but he held on to Lewis' coattails to maintain the score at 15-13.
Lewis eventually got the job done as he nudged past Snakebite, winning 16-14 in a gruelling contest.
3 Dart Analyst once again provided statistics, comparing the two players' averages through the match:
Both matches were flat affairs, and the crowd found it difficult to stay invested as the four men plodded along with mediocre darts.
There were flashes of inspiration late in both ties, but Van Gerwen and Lewis were comfortable throughout.
Despite his air of supremacy, MvG might struggle if he doesn't play his best on Saturday against Lewis, who has the game to beat any opponent on any stage when he gets his lines right on the night.
