Colin Cowherd: 'I'd Take Phil Mickelson's Career over Tiger's'
Fox Sports personality Colin Cowherd is known to have bold takes from time to time, but his statement about Phil Mickelson's career in comparison to Tiger Woods' is a real doozy.
Cowherd made an argument that Mickelson's prolonged success in golf is more impressive than Woods' incredible—though comparatively shorter—run of sheer dominance.
Per Luke Kerr-Dineen of For the Win, Cowherd said, "Tiger Woods was Eddie Murphy. For 10 years the biggest star in America. And Phil Mickelson is Bill Murray. He just keeps doing great movies."
He added, "It's funny. If you look at what makes legends in sports, it is so often that we overlook Phil Mickelsons who are just good for a long time. I'd take Phil Mickelson's career over Tiger's."
Mickelson has had an impressive career, no doubt. Since 1988, he has racked up 42 career wins, 34 second-place finishes and five major titles.
Woods, on the other hand, has won 79 tournaments since 1992, placed second 29 times and won 14 majors.
Cowherd's reasoning about longevity is understandable, but it's hard to argue with those numbers.
