Crowell previously posted a graphic photo showing a masked man holding a machete to the throat of a police officer in response to the deaths of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling. Crowell later deleted the post and apologized.

Per ESPN.com's Pat McManamon, Crowell had the following to say via a team-released statement in the aftermath of his social media post: "It was an extremely poor decision, and I apologize for that mistake and for offending people. My values and beliefs do not match that image."

Crowell's announced intention to make a pledge to the Dallas Fallen Officer Foundation came after five Dallas police officers were shot and killed in a sniper attack last Thursday.
