Track and Field 2016 Olympic Trials: Saturday Live Results and Analysis
Bernard Lagat made history on Day 9 of the U.S. Olympic Trials for track and field.
The 41-year-old runner won the men's 5,000 meter final, qualifying for his fifth Olympics and becoming the oldest U.S. Olympic distance runner in history.
Lagat's win headlined the slate of events on Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, which also saw defending 110 meter hurdles gold medalist Aries Merritt fail to qualify for the Olympics by one-one-hundredth of a second after undergoing a kidney transplant last September, and veteran sprinter Justin Gatlin use a fast start from the outside to win the men's 200 meter race.
Qualifiers were also established in the women's javelin and men's triple jump, while the field was set for the women's 200 meter final, which will run on Sunday during the last day of qualifying.
