WWE Rumors: Buzz on Road to WWE Battleground 2016 for Week of July 8

Aaron BowerJul 8, 2016

The wrestling world is still buzzing from TNA's shocking The Final Deletion show that saw Matt and Jeff Hardy fight it out for the family name, and if we are to believe this week's rumors, WWE took notice.

That forms a large part of the rumor roundup this week, and with the brand split inching ever closer, there's speculation about who could return to the company later this month.

In addition, there's news of a veteran sticking around for a while longer just yet. Here's this week's rumor buzz.

More Former Stars Returning to WWE?

The brand split is just a couple of weeks away now, and based on what is surfacing online, plans are underway to flesh out the rosters of both Raw and SmackDown.

The latest report comes from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Lords of Pain), which notes that WWE has reached out to four more stars.

Two of them are former members of the WWE roster and therefore familiar faces to WWE fans: Curt Hawkins and Jimmy Wang Yang.

According to the report, WWE is keen on bringing back stars of the past as veterans so that they can put over younger talent effectively. If that's true, then it's the best reason for bringing these kinds of guys back.

The report also notes WWE is interested in signing Lucha stars Volador Jr. and Rush. The latter worked a WWE tryout last year alongside Andrade "Cien" Almas.

Chris Jericho Sticking Around in WWE

There is good news for fans of Chris Jericho this week: Y2J confirmed he's having too much fun to consider walking away from the company any time soon.

Jericho's last few stints with WWE have been far shorter than his current one, owing mostly to his touring schedule with his band, Fozzy.

But in an interview with the International Business Times, Jericho mentioned he will be back on the road with Fozzy in early 2017.

This is great news for a company that is looking to keep its rosters as strong as possible heading into the brand split.

Jericho brings a lot of experience, an ability to put younger talent over and also a comedic element to his work, which makes him one of the company's best assets, even in his mid-40s.

Whether it leads to a rivalry of any significance remains to be seen, but it's just good to see Jericho sticking around.

The New Day vs. The Wyatts to Top The Final Deletion?

The wrestling world has been full of talk this week about events in TNA.

The Final Deletion was controversial, sparking plenty of debate throughout the world of wrestling. It obviously caught WWE's eye if the latest rumors are anything to go by.

A report from CagesideSeats.com says that it made such an impact that WWE is going all out to top it, potentially at Battleground on July 24.

The New Day mentioned on Raw this past week that they had been invited to The Wyatt Family's "compound," and the report mentions that WWE is looking to make an actual "compound match" in a similar vein to Jeff and Matt Hardy's match away from the traditional surroundings.

Whether it is anywhere near as outrageous as The Final Deletion remains to be seen. But hats off to WWE for thinking outside of the box, even if TNA got there first in this instance.
