Jurgen Klopp Officially Signs New Long-Term Liverpool Contract

James DudkoJul 6, 2016

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new contract, per the Reds' official website.

James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo noted the new deal will run until 2022.

Klopp only took over at Anfield in October 2015, but owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have already succeeded in tying him down.

Pearce described how Klopp has endeared himself to FSG and is running the club the way the owners want:

"

The German coach is relishing the job he took on last October and he's expected to pen an extension over the coming weeks.

Assistant coaches Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz will also be rewarded with new deals.

Klopp has also bought into how FSG want Liverpool to be run by developing young talent on the training field and his relationship with the American owners is strong.

Despite finishing eighth in the Premier League, Klopp did guide the Merseyside club all the way in two cup competitions: Liverpool lost on penalties to Manchester City in the Capital One Cup showpiece and were overwhelmed by holders Sevilla in the UEFA Europa League final.

While Klopp's team buckled when it counted, hints of the manager's distinctive brand of football were obvious at times—obvious enough to generate real hope for Liverpool's future.

When things clicked—such as the Premier League win at Chelsea, the Europa League triumph against Villarreal and the League Cup hammering of Southampton—Liverpool played the high-octane, quick-breaking football Klopp made famous when he won a pair of Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund.

With new signings such as former Southampton forward Sadio Mane already added to the mix, the Reds are clearly keen to build on Klopp's positive start.

Yet such a strong show of faith will demand more tangible on-pitch success from Klopp's first full campaign in charge, particularly a higher league finish.
