WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from July 6
The United States celebrated its independence Monday and just 48 hours later, American Alpha challenged The Revival in a Best 2-out-of-3 Falls match for the tag team championship in the main event of the July 6 episode of NXT.
The battle for tag team supremacy dates back to pre-WrestleMania months, with American Alpha and The Revival each attempting to prove to the NXT faithful that they are the elite team in professional wrestling. Wednesday night, they had the opportunity to do just that in a high-profile, marquee match that played perfectly on their previous encounters.
Elsewhere on the card, Bayley battled Alexa Bliss in a match sure to stir up discussion on who is the rightful No. 1 contender. Bliss has secured victory after victory of late, while Bayley is still coming off the most one-sided loss of her NXT career, that being to Nia Jax.
Which woman would state their case for a title opportunity against Asuka?
The answer to that question and more would be answered during this week's WWE Network presentation. Relive Wednesday's show with this look at the winners, match grades and instant analysis.
Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss
1 of 3Refusing to let another championship opportunity pass her by, Alexa Bliss was ferocious in her attack of Bayley Wednesday night, gaining control of the match by sending her opponent throat-first into the ring ropes and cutting her off through the first commercial break.
Bliss continued her domination and even attempted the Twisted Bliss. While that may have failed, she answered with a sunset flip powerbomb that netted a two-count.
Bayley withstood the attack, though, and put a very game Bliss away with the Bayley-to-Belly suplex.
Result
Bayley defeated Alexa Bliss.

Analysis
Bayley may be an iconic NXT figure, but this was the Alexa Bliss show. She was outstanding here, turning in one of the best performances of her young career in a losing effort. She was fierce and looked the part of a wrestler coming into her own against the division's best.
It does not appear as though she will be in contention for the next championship match, but at some point, management will no longer be able to deny her a chance to prove herself in a high-profile, televised title match.
The Hype Bros vs. Murphy and Blake
2 of 3Murphy and Blake attempted one more reunion as they battled The Hype Bros.
Before the match could begin, though, Rhyno made his return to NXT and delivered a Gore to everyone in the vicinity.
That is, except for Murphy, who bailed out of the way before suffering the high-impact maneuver.
Result
No-contest
Grade
C-
Analysis
This was a fine reintroduction to Rhyno and probably the best he has ever been used in NXT.
With that said, one has to wonder where he goes from here. Is he going to rise to the top of the card with the impending departures of Finn Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura? Is he an elder statesman there to put young talent over while flirting with the main event?
A great pro whose selflessness is evident in his work, Rhyno has a place in NXT. What that place is bears watching.
Best 2-out-of-3 Falls Match: American Alpha vs. The Revival
3 of 3In an epic encounter designed to play off the feud between American Alpha and The Revival, the Best 2-out-of-3 Falls match for the NXT Tag Team Championships provided the brand with its first free television match of the year.
For 20-plus minutes, they waged war in a match that, on its own, would have been a great match. Then one remembered it was only the first fall of the contest, providing a fresh take on an old concept.
The challengers won the match when Chad Gable and Jason Jordan trapped Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson in stereo ankle locks and scored the tapout from Wilder. Dawson tied things up less than one minute later with an inverted Figure Four leg lock.
With the playing field level, the champions delivered Shatter Machine on the ring apron and scored the pinfall victory over Chad Gable.
Result
The Revival defeated American Alpha 2-1.
Grade

Analysis
Find a better television tag team match than this one. I dare you.
American Alpha and The Revival have the best in-ring chemistry of any two tag teams in a generation. Their timing is impeccable, and their penchant for executing fresh, innovative and unique spots is uncanny. They took what is a very tired, worn-out concept and delivered a near-classic.
The 28-minute run time easily makes the match one of the longest in NXT TV history and justifiably so. Despite only competing against each other a handful of times before cameras, they have transformed the tag team division with a rivalry that, from an in-ring product perspective, ranks as one of the greatest in the brand's history.
Go out of your way to watch this one.
