Ryan Giggs Reportedly 'Shocked' with Jose Mourinho's Manchester United Claims

Christopher SimpsonJul 6, 2016

Ryan Giggs was reportedly "shocked" by Jose Mourinho's comments that he was offered an "important job" by Manchester United

That's according to the Times' Paul Hirst and Matt Dickinson, who added that "friends of the Welshman [said] that the club had only ever talked of a vague development role with no first-team responsibilities."

Further, Hirst and Dickinson reported Mourinho did not hold talks with Giggs regarding a position on his coaching team, despite the United legend informing club chiefs he hoped to remain at Old Trafford and continue honing his craft under the Portuguese (h/t TalkSport).

The Special One was unveiled in his first press conference on Tuesday and discussed the former assistant manager's departure from the club, per Sky Sports News HQ:

Per the Mirror's Jacob Murtagh, Mourinho added:

"

From this moment he wants to be a manager. Sixteen years ago I decided the same. Ryan made his decision.

He could be what he wants at the club. The club wanted to give him any important job but he made a decision.

He was brave and honest, so good luck. If he wants to come back then I will never stop him.

"

As noted by football writer Liam Canning, it was a typically lively presser from the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss:

Former Premier League footballer and beIN Sports pundit Mido believed the 53-year-old's comments were out of line, however:

Giggs was at the club for 29 years, as a player under Sir Alex Ferguson and as a coach alongside David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.

The chance to further learn the tricks of the trade under Mourinho could have been highly beneficial to the Welshman, but now he will need to strike out on his own as he looks to pursue a career in management.

If he can emulate his mentors and achieve success elsewhere, he may find himself returning to Old Trafford in the future.
