11 New Sports Jerseys You Need This Summer

Giancarlo Ferrari-KingJul 6, 2016

Who in this world doesn't love getting his or her hands on a brand-new, crispy sports jersey?

It's sort of become a holiday tradition with each passing offseason. New players join your favorite teams, athletes you root for find new homes and while all of this happening, the world keeps on spinning.

This current offseason has provided a whirlwind of change. With that thought in mind, picking out 11 new sports jerseys—stuff you couldn't get your hands on last season—was a task we wanted to take on.

Soccer, football and basketball were used in order to round out this list—baseball is still in season and hockey hasn't seen a handful of drastic changes. Understanding the criteria involved, the following 11 jerseys were selected.

Honorable Mentions

1 of 12

If you don't like what you're about to see, here's an honorable mentions slide to hold you over. This slide consists of athletes who were on the brink of cracking the top 11. As always, drop your thoughts below on what jerseys you're going to be rocking in the summer of 2016.

  • Derrick Rose, G, New York Knicks
  • Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Dallas Cowboys
  • Rajon Rondo, G, Chicago Bulls
  • Jalen Ramsey, CB, Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Brandon Ingram, Los Angeles Lakers
  • Al Horford, C, Boston Celtics

Dwyane Wade: Chicago Bulls

2 of 12

What in the world is going on? First Kevin Durant, now Dwyane Wade is headed off to a new home in Chicago, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The longtime Miami Heat guard committed himself to the Bulls, generating an appreciative reaction from Heat owner Micky Arison—among others.

Adding a Wade jersey in Chicago colors isn't just for Bulls fans. It's also for everyone out there who has watched and enjoyed D-Wade play over his 13-year career in South Beach.

Team USA Basketball

3 of 12

With the 2016 Summer Olympics coming at us faster than the speed of Kyrie Irving's crossover, the need for an updated Team USA jersey is crucial.

It's mandatory wearing for your summer barbecues, house parties and pickup games. Select any member of the current roster, then swipe your debit card. Who cares if it's Irving or Kevin Durant? On Team USA, there are no enemies. The important thing is we all need this jersey.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: Manchester United

4 of 12

Newly minted Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has already locked on his tin cap and climbed into his Dr. Frankenstein-like laboratory.

His first order when it came to rebuilding United was securing Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a striking capacity, per Ibrahimovic himself. The move is cool because not only is Ibrahimovic a beast, but the guy also represents a sweeping change in direction for United.

As one of Mourinho's minions, not having an Ibrahimovic jersey could be considered Premier League blasphemy.

Kevin Durant: Golden State Warriors

5 of 12

If you can't beat them, sign a two-year, $54 million contract, per Kevin Durant himself on the Players' Tribune, and create a superteam that could rival that of the Justice League—or something like that, right?

Kevin Durant has packed his bags and left Oklahoma City for the Bay Area. With that, his coveted No. 35 jersey just got a complete makeover.

I know it's kind of front-runner status and all, but come on, who doesn't want a KD Warriors jersey? Those crisp colors with Durant's named stitched to the back is all we need in this life of sin.

Josh Norman: Washington Redskins

6 of 12

The Washington Redskins landing free-agent cornerback Josh Norman was a necessary chess move in order to try to put a clamp on all of the NFC East's great wide receivers.

Norman's jersey lends itself to be worn. He's a dynamic talent, who got into fights with Odell Beckham Jr. last season and helped guide the Carolina Panthers defense to be ranked No. 2 overall by the folks over at Football Outsiders.

Putting Norman's digs on your back is a diabolic way to make a statement as an avid Washington supporter.

Pau Gasol: San Antonio Spurs

7 of 12

If you're into veteran players switching teams, perhaps Pau Gasol's recent move to San Antonio, per Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical and Marc Stein of ESPN, will pique your fashionable interest.

Gasol has constantly been a poster child of riveting, consistent, underrated play—see his time with Kobe Bryant's Los Angeles Lakers. It's why moving over to the Spurs feels all sorts of right.

Coach Gregg Popovich will get him to work, he will perform at a high level and all will be right in the Western Conference—or something like that.

Any way you shake it, the Spurs have always worn a series of dope jerseys. Adding Gasol to your collection is worth it if you're into savvy veterans heading out west.

Jared Goff: Los Angeles Rams

8 of 12

Jared Goff isn't just a rookie quarterback preparing for his first season in the National Football League. He's a quarterback who has been handed the keys to Los Angeles, a city that hasn't seen pro football since 1994.

The former University of California gunslinger has immense pressure to succeed. He could very well become a cult hero in Tinsel Town depending on his growth and development as a passer.

If you love football and love the city of Los Angeles, buying a Goff jersey is like breathing—you have to do it.

Ben Simmons: Philadelphia 76ers

9 of 12

Everybody wants to be a part of the next big thing. In the NBA, the Philadelphia 76ers'—and No. 1 overall pick—Ben Simmons is quickly falling into that category.

If we're to believe scouting reports, Simmons is next in line to make a serious leap into NBA superstardom. Aran Smith of NBADraft.net compared him to LeBron James and Lamar Odom due to his size, strength and on-court vision.

Sixers fans need a Simmons jersey—that's a must. However, basketball fans in general could hop on the bandwagon too, staking claim to their own version of No. 25's rookie shirt.

Carson Wentz: Philadelphia Eagles

10 of 12

Not to be outdone by Jared Goff, Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz has a shot to be really good in the NFL.

Goff may very well be a savior for the city of Los Angeles. But Wentz has a chance to emerge through the dust Mad Max style and save Philly in an apocalyptic, post-Chip Kelly world.

It's understandable that NFC East fans who don't pull for the Eagles won't be supporters of this Wentz movement. Even so, regular NFL devotees could be all over this garment in no time at all.

Brandon Jennings: New York Knicks

11 of 12

It's always entertaining when a pragmatic scorer winds up on an underachieving team. Given the New York Knicks' decision to ink Brandon Jennings to a deal, per ESPN.com's Marc Stein, the blue-and-orange jersey that goes with it should be owned by everybody in the tri-state area.

Jennings embodies everything that makes jerseys cool. He's a non-mainstream guard, coming off an Achilles rupture in 2015 who can create his own shot, score a lot of points and has spent a career raising eyebrows.

Charles Curtis of For the Win detailed why Jennings landing in New York could prove to be a steal. If he somehow finds his old ways, this jersey will serve as tribute to an excellent Knicks guard.

Russell Westbrook: Oklahoma City Thunder

12 of 12

You might be confused why Russell Westbrook—a guy who has spent eight seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder—is on this list.

With Kevin Durant gone, Westbrook could be next. ESPN's Brian Windhorst explained part of the thought process behind this decision: "If Westbrook chooses not to extend his contract this summer, multiple league executives told ESPN they believe the Thunder will consider fielding trade offers for Westbrook."

In other words, Westbrook's impending departure from OKC means this could be your last chance to land his current jersey. Choose wisely, my friends.
