Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Manchester United Discussed by Emmanuel Petit
Former France and Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has warned Manchester United fans that Zlatan Ibrahimovic may not be a success in the Premier League, suggesting the club already has one falling star in Wayne Rooney.
Ibrahimovic confirmed on Thursday that he'll move to Old Trafford this summer, but at 34 years of age, Petit told French broadcaster RMC his best days may be behind him (h/t ESPN FC's Mark Rodden):
"There's already an emblematic player [at Manchester United] who's starting to drag his weight around the pitch a little bit -- Wayne Rooney -- in a very physical league, where it's often box-to-box and where you really ask your forwards to have a physical dimension.
Maybe Ibra can bring a different touch, but he's not the player that I was expecting at Manchester United, to be honest. Maybe I'm mistaken -- I don't know. I think it's a bit of a gamble.

Many will undoubtedly disagree with former Premier League star Petit, and after Ibrahimovic netted 50 goals in 51 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain last season, the striker seems like a sure thing in terms of goal return.
The veteran forward, who has scored goals en masse for the likes of Juventus, Barcelona, Milan and Inter in the past, comes to England with a prolific reputation, and he isn't likely to change anytime soon:
United and England captain Rooney, meanwhile, has retreated from the forward line in his older years and lined up as a midfielder at times under former manager Louis van Gaal last season.
New boss Jose Mourinho was linked with a move for Rooney during his days at the Chelsea helm, and Squawka's Nic English recently predicted what may come of the player's international career depending on his involvement:
One thing Ibrahimovic is certain to bring to the club is experience and wisdom the likes of which young forwards Anthony Martial, 20, and Marcus Rashford, 18, will assuredly find invaluable.
United have been lacking a seasoned, world-class frontman since Robin van Persie departed the club last summer, while Radamel Falcao's loan was a fruitless endeavour, and Javier Hernandez was an outcast at the club.

They may have that once again with Ibrahimovic now at the club, but the Premier League is one of Europe's top leagues in which the Swede is yet to test his talents.
Ibrahimovic has scored at least 30 goals in his last five successive seasons and hasn't failed to score in the double digits since the 2004-05 campaign with Juve.
