Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest Paul Pogba, Gabriel Jesus Rumours

James DudkoJun 25, 2016

Real Madrid are reportedly wary of trying to sign Paul Pogba amid fears the Juventus midfielder would challenge the lavish wage structure established among the club's Galacticos.

Carlos Forjanes of Spanish publication AS (h/t the Sun's Wally Downes Jr.) laid out Real's concerns, which also include the mooted €120 million asking price: "The former Old Trafford academy kid is after around £200,000-a-week and...that would put him second in Madrid’s paid ranks below only Cristiano Ronaldo. That would apparently upset Madrid hotshots like skipper Sergio Ramos and centre-back hard man Pepe."

The report also noted how Manchester United and their boss, former Blancos' manager Jose Mourinho, will look to take advantage of Real's hesitance and make their own move for Pogba.

Earlier in June, B/R's Dean Jones revealed Pogba favours a move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer:

It's easy to see why Los Merengues would be keen on Pogba. The Frenchman is a legitimate star as one of the most dynamic midfielders in the game.

Few players boast the 23-year-old's signature blend of awesome physical power and stylish flair. The same combination has made ex-United reserve Pogba a leader for Serie A giants Juventus.

One of his team-mates in Turin, striker Paulo Dybala, believes Pogba will resist any move to either Spain or England's top flight and stay with Juve, per an interview with Italian source La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t ESPN FC): "Pogba will remain here. I spoke with him and I believe he will stay. We didn't talk about football but I believe that will be the case."

Truthfully, as good as he is, Real boss Zinedine Zidane may struggle to make proper use of Pogba in a midfield already housing Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. The France great would have to find the right position for his country's current star man.

Usually, Brazilian enforcer Casemiro patrols deep while Modric and Kroos probe for openings further forward. It's a formula that helped Los Blancos win last season's UEFA Champions League.

But Pogba does his best work whenever he's driving forward as a box-to-box runner. He's no No. 10, yet putting him in the middle would place Modric in defensive areas more often.

Perhaps Real have better reasons than not upsetting egos for passing on Pogba.

Real Competing with Barcelona for Brazil Prodigy

They may not want Pogba, but the 11-time European champions are ready to beat bitter enemies Barcelona to the signing of teenage Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus.

Writing for Spanish publication MarcaJuan Ignacio Garcia-Ochoa detailed Real's attempts to sign the 19-year-old Palmeiras star: "Los Blancos have been tracking Gabriel Jesus, who has scored six times in 10 outings for Palmeiras this season, and now aim to trump their arch rivals to his capture in a deal which would cost the European champions in the region of 24 million euros."

Yet the same report also described how third-party ownership issues will make any deal complicated.

Dealing with the agents may prove tricky, but it's an obstacle Madrid should try and overcome. The club needs young attacking talent behind the 31-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo and the 28-year-old Karim Benzema.

Jese and Alvaro Morata are available, but it's debatable whether they'll be given enough chances to impress. But a burgeoning South American gem could soon play his way into first-team action at a club that values bold, attacking football.

Zidane may feel his starting XI is well stocked in the middle, but he could risk taking a punt on one for the future up top.
