Unlike the men, who will know their Olympic fate after their Trials end on Saturday, the P&G Championships do not decide who will compete in August. These results will determine who moves on to the Olympic Trials, which take place on July 8 and July 10 in San Jose, California.
The national all-around and event champions will be decided after Sunday, and the top eight finishers will automatically qualify for the Olympic Trials, while a selection committee will choose additional competitors.
Douglas and Raisman performed well, but Simone Biles stole the show on Friday.
She finished atop the field in three of the four events to easily end the day with the overall lead. The highlight of her day was this floor routine, an event she won by a wide margin. NBC Olympics provided a look at the performance:
Sports Illustrated's Richard Deitsch heaped some heavy praise on Biles' athleticism:
Assuming she keeps this up on Day 2, Biles will undoubtedly qualify for the Olympic Trials, where she should then become a key part of the team in Rio.
Douglas and Raisman are still likely to make the team as well, but they need to pick up their performances to give themselves some more cushion. Douglas was especially disappointing, as she was never a real threat to win any of the events on Friday.
Keep an eye on Biles moving forward, as she could become America's next Olympic star.
