The Chanticleers bullpen did the heavy lifting, with relievers Mike Morrison and Bobby Holmes pitching the final 6.2 innings. They combined to allow two runs on four hits while striking out eight Red Raiders.

After the game, Morrison talked about how head coach Gary Gilmore provided him with motivation on the mound.

"If you show up in the locker room and don't want to win for that guy, you don't have a competitive bone in your body," he said, per Coastal Carolina's official Twitter account.

The Chanticleers also got a lot of production from their No. 9 hitter, catcher David Parrett. He went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

D1Baseball.com's Kendall Rogers noted why Thursday's performance was surprising:

Coastal Carolina drew first blood in the top of the second, but the Chanticleers' advantage was short-lived. A three-run second inning for Texas Tech gave the Red Raiders an early 3-1 lead.

Jason Bilous walked Tyler Floyd to load the bases with two outs, and Stephen Smith promptly doubled to center to bring home three runs.

D1Baseball.com's Aaron Fitt thought Bilous' pitch to Smith illustrated one of the right-hander's biggest problems:

The Chanticleers responded swiftly with a three-run inning of their own in the top of the third. The Red Raiders shot themselves in the foot, as errors by third baseman Hunter Hargrove and first baseman Eric Gutierrez led to each of the runs.

Coastal Carolina tacked on three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to go ahead 7-3, and all three runs were again unearned.

Shortstop Orlando Garcia committed a throwing error on a ground ball by G.K. Young. Robert Dugger walked the bases loaded before a sacrifice fly by Tyler Chadwick and a single by Parrett padded the Chanticleers' lead, via NCAA Baseball:

Texas Tech trimmed the deficit to two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Tanner Gardner scored on a sacrifice fly by Hargrove, and Michael Davis singled home Tyler Neslony. With runners on first and second and two outs, Holmes struck out Ryan Long to end the inning and remove the threat.

Holmes then shut the door in the eighth and ninth to secure the 7-5 victory.

Coastal Carolina will move on to play the TCU Horned Frogs in the semifinals. The Horned Frogs have the advantage of being unbeaten in Omaha. They already own one head-to-head victory over the Chanticleers in the College World Series, having won 6-1 on Tuesday.

TCU is only one win away from the finals, whereas Coastal Carolina needs to beat the Big 12 champions twice to move on.

The two teams will play Friday night at 8 p.m. ET.
