Finally, Seth Rollins challenged Roman Reigns in a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match seven months in the making. Would it end with controversy or would one of the stars establish their dominance? As fans found out in the immediate wake of the match, anything can—and does—happen in WWE.
John Cena vs. AJ Styles
There was little denying that the much-anticipated match between Cena and Styles was a superb demonstration of professional wrestling done right. What was in debate, though, was the finish and its effectiveness.
Some, including wrestling historian and podcast host Kris Zellner as well as Bleacher Report's Mike Chiari, voiced support for the outcome, which saw The Club interfere to set up Styles' win:
More vocal were those who hated the finish, believing it robbed The Phenomenal One of a signature win. Among them were B/R's Donald Wood, WhatCulture.com's Adam Pacitti, Fighting Spirit Magazine and even Hall of Fame ring announcer Howard Finkel:
Whether one liked the finish or thought it undermined Styles' credibility, the common theme in every one of the tweets was that everything preceding it was extraordinary.
The Lunatic Dictates the Title Picture
For months, WWE faithful have watched as Ambrose repeatedly failed to win the big one. That ended on Sunday with a win in the Money in the Bank ladder match, and the Twitterverse embraced the victory with great enthusiasm.
Mixed martial artist and professional wrestler Shayna Baszler was intrigued by the storylines the win opened up, while WWE interviewer and on-screen personality Renee Young coyly congratulated her off-screen beau:
"Congrats Mr. Money in the Bank ❣

B/R MMA analyst Steven Rondina was pleasantly surprised by the outcome:
It was FSM that asked the most pressing question:
The publication, and millions of fans around the globe, would get their answer in short order.
Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and an Emotional Roller Coaster
The WWE World Heavyweight Championship match pitting top contender Seth Rollins against titleholder Roman Reigns was every bit the dramatic, heart-racing match that fans expected, relying on high spots, near-falls and false finishes to generate considerable heat.

One of the most memorable spots of the entire match saw Reigns charge at Rollins only to go head-first through the barricade. WWE Universe posted a GIF of the nasty collision, while WWE Creative Humor and 3 Count Thursday cracked a joke or two:
Rollins countered a Spear by Reigns into a Pedigree, then put him away with a second Pedigree for the championship win.
But the questions surrounding the title bout only grew louder as Ambrose's music interrupted Rollins' celebration.
New WWE World Heavyweight Champion
On the same night that he knocked the monkey from his back, Ambrose added "WWE world heavyweight champion" to his resume by cashing in his briefcase and capturing the top prize in the sport from Rollins.
Just minutes after The Lunatic Fringe's home-state Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA title, fan James McKenna hit the right note with this meme:
WrestleZone.com related the moment to a previous Money in the Bank memory, while B/R's Alfred Konuwa reacted as only he can:
Dewey Foley, son of the legendary Hall of Famer Mick, took an interesting approach in celebrating the surprise victory:
Finally, Wood wrapped up the evening with a sentiment many fans can relate to:
After two solid years of watching Ambrose come oh so close to achieving greatness, to etching his name in the history books, those fans who remained loyal watched him capture the title that has eluded him in grand fashion—and in front of a rabid crowd appropriately excited for moment that unfolded.
