Seattle Marathon Results 2016: Men's and Women's Top Rock 'N' Roll Finishers
Samuel Golitom Hadgu and Sophia Liu paced their respective fields Saturday by winning the eighth annual Seattle Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in the streets of downtown Seattle.
Hadgu was dominant in his first career victory at the event, beating second-place finisher Jeffrey Stein by more than five minutes. Liu has made a habit of crossing the finish line first in Seattle, as she won the race for the third consecutive year.

The Seattle Times tweeted photos of the elated winners during their triumphant moments Saturday:
Hadgu is a native of Eritrea, and his time was the best in the men's marathon since Jonathan Ndambuki finished in just less than two hours and 25 minutes in 2011.
Liu, who is a Washington resident, turned in the best performance of her storied Seattle Rock 'n' Roll Marathon career Saturday.
While her winning margin was three minutes tighter this year, Liu improved her time by nearly seven minutes in comparison to what she did in 2015 and by nearly six minutes from the year prior.
While both Hadgu and Liu had to battle their opponents, they were also forced to grind through less-than-ideal weather conditions.
As seen in this tweet from Stephen Ramaley of KOMO-TV, it was a rainy Saturday, which isn't uncommon in the Emerald City:
At the same time, the weather may have worked to the advantage of the winners in terms of preventing extreme heat. As this photo from Keisha Burns of KING 5 shows, the overcast skies held the sun at bay:
Although poor weather can put a damper on sporting events, that wasn't the case at the Seattle Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, as a large, enthusiastic crowd was present to cheer on some top-flight runners.
The picturesque city of Seattle is quickly becoming a destination for elite runners, and so long as athletes such as Hadgu and Liu continue to enter in the years to follow, the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon promises to become a fixture on the running circuit.
