Tour de Suisse 2016: Stage 8 Results, General Classification After Time Trial
Movistar rider Jon Izagirre won Stage 8 of the 2016 Tour de Suisse on Saturday after setting the fastest time in the trial. He finished ahead of Astana's Miguel Angel Lopez, who is the new general classification leader after Giant-Alpecin's Warren Barguil lost precious seconds in the mountains.
Here's the results for Stage 8, per the Inner Ring:

Fabian Cancellara had set the early pace, as the local rider sped over the first two intermediates. The race's official site relayed highlights of Cancellara's swift progress:
Cancellara's team was only too happy to share the impressive data, proving how quickly their rider had navigated the route:
Some, including Mikkel Conde, felt Cancellara made the most of starting early on the course:
"Good time from Cancellara. Strong tailwind on the first part. Late starting riders won't have that luxury. Hope it stays dry. #TourDeSuisse

Whatever the reason, Cancellara had set an impressive time to beat, per VelonCC:
For a while it looked like no rider would come close. Eventually, though, Izagirre not only matched Cancellara but smashed his time by an impressive 19 seconds.
He made quicker work of the descent than Cancellara managed, a key factor in his stunning finish, one captured by Brain on Wheels:
The big shakeup in the yellow jersey standings came when overall race leader Barguil lost vital time in the mountains. Cyclingnieuws detailed exactly where it went wrong for Barguil:
In the end, Barguil had lost close to a minute on Izagirre. He also couldn't match Lopez, who used a speedy climb to set the second-fastest time on the day and take the yellow jersey.
It got worse for Barguil, who was also passed by Andrew Talansky. The Cannondale rider set the fourth-fastest mark in the trial, but it was good enough to move up a spot into second in the yellow jersey standings.
As for Cancellara, the popular figure in this event will now leave the race ahead of its final stage to prepare for the ITT National Championship, according to Tour de Suisse.

More mountains are due for Stage 9, something Barguil won't relish after things went wrong on Saturday.
