Sports Figures Recall 'Most Important Sports Lesson' Learned from Their Fathers
Not their coaches. Not their athletic trainers. Not even their fellow athletes.
For some of the biggest names in sports, many of the earliest, most invaluable lessons regarding the games they love came from their fathers.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck recalled his dad reprimanding his lackadaisical practice effort on the fifth-grade gridiron.
Similarly, San Diego Chargers signal-caller Philip Rivers' old man instructed him to invest passion and intention in all aspects of his life.
Most interestingly, however, were the comments made by Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr's daughter and son.
For Maddy, a Cal volleyball player, Kerr's dedication to teamwork came to mind, while Nick's comment was all too relevant given the Warriors' recent, uncharacteristic appearance in the NBA Finals.
"My dad has always stressed the importance of playing hard even when shots weren't falling," said the Berkeley basketball player, according to I Love To Watch You Play. "He taught me that I have a responsibility to my teammates even if I was frustrated with my own play."
Should the younger Kerr have procrastinated in his Father's Day gift shopping, delivering such advice to the Dubs in a pre-Game 7 speech would more than likely do.
