Kyle Williams to Jets: Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

Adam WellsJun 17, 2016

The New York Jets have bolstered their stable of playmakers by signing veteran wide receiver Kyle Williams

Per Eric Allen of the Jets' official website, the organization signed Williams on Friday following a veteran tryout at the team's minicamp.

Williams expressed his excitement at this new opportunity on Twitter:

Allen also noted that to make room for Williams on the roster, the Jets waived Quenton Bundrage.

A sixth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2010, Williams has recorded 47 catches for 574 yards and four touchdowns in four seasons. He has also been a valuable special teams player with 24 yards per kick return and 8.1 yards per punt return in his career.

However, Williams has not played in an NFL game since November 17, 2013, with the Kansas City Chiefs. He was released by the Chiefs before the 2014 season began. He later signed with the Denver Broncos for the 2015 season, but he never appeared in a game after rupturing his Achilles during training camp.

Williams is a perfect fit for the Jets, who need to add more speed at wide receiver to complement Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, who are great at overpowering defenders. His ability to play on special teams to replace free-agent departure Jeremy Kerley is an added bonus for head coach Todd Bowles.
