WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from June 15

Erik BeastonJun 15, 2016

On the heels of another championship match loss to Samoa Joe, Finn Balor returned to the NXT Arena to discuss his next step in his journey to greatness. Before he could reveal to the fans what he has in store going forward, an unexpected guest would inspire The Demon to accept a match that can only be described as a dream.

Andrade "Cien" Almas and Tye Dillinger renewed their rivalry—The Perfect 10 determined to avenge his loss to the newcomer at TakeOver: The End. Would he be victorious, or would the Mexican-born star have his number once more?

TM61 returned to the squared circle, battling former tag team champions Blake and Murphy. With new tag champs crowned in the form of The Revival, both tandems sought a win to catapult them into contention. Which team would succeed?

Fans found out the answers to those questions and more Wednesday night as NXT hit the WWE Network airwaves.

Now you can, too, with this look back at the June 15 episode, including winners, grades and analysis for every segment.

The Authors of Pain Debut

1 of 5

The Authors of Pain made their in-ring debuts Wednesday night and wasted little time in establishing themselves as the most dangerous duo in the tag team division.

Their unnamed opponents felt the brunt of the massive tandem's merciless offense before succumbing to a clothesline-leg sweep combination.

Paul Ellering looked on approvingly, satisfied with his team's demolishing of its local opponents.

Result

The Authors of Pain squashed two enhancement wrestlers.

Grade

D+

Analysis

Do not let the grade fool you; this was exactly what it needed to be.

The brand new team of Sunny Dhinsa and Gzim Selmani was dominant, destroying the unnamed job squad and moving on. Nothing was said by Ellering or either of his charges, their actions speaking volumes.

If anything, the lack of a competitive match fuels the overall grade.

Carmella vs. Tessa Blanchard

2 of 5

The daughter of WWE Hall of Famer and legendary Four Horseman Tully, Tessa Blanchard, returned to the NXT Arena. As she continues to make a name for herself in the industry her father was so successful in, she took to the squared circle Wednesday night to battle a determined Carmella.

Unfortunately for Blanchard, a pedigree as vibrant and impressive as hers could not guarantee her victory.

The Princess of Staten Island mounted a comeback, overcoming Blanchard's offense and finishing her off with the Code of Silence submission for the win.

Result

Carmella defeated Tessa Blanchard.

Grade

C-

Analysis

If Blanchard continues to work, improve and evolve her in-ring game, she will one day find herself on the receiving end of a WWE contract and a starring role in NXT. She has the necessary skill set and fundamentals, not to mention a connection to Triple H's favorite faction ever.

Enough cannot be said about Carmella's work in NXT over the last two years. Originally greeted with groans and jeers, fans doubting her abilities, she has worked hard to develop an in-ring style for herself and has grown into a captivating babyface competitor.

TM-61 vs. Blake and Murphy

3 of 5

Blake and Murphy appeared done, separated for good just a few weeks ago. Wednesday night, they reunited to battle the upstart team of TM-61.

The former tag team champions failed in their attempt to channel their united energy into a victory.

Shane Thorne overcame a concentrated attack by TM-61's opponents and made the hot tag to Nick Miller. Moments later, the exciting young duo caught Blake with Thunder Valley to score the upset victory.

Result

TM-61 defeated Blake and Murphy.

Grade

C

Analysis

This was an impressive showing from TM-61. The team not only looked great between bells, but it also scored a convincing upset over former tag champions. No matter how many issues Blake and Murphy have had over the last six months, they are still a competent team whose accomplishments are recognized by the longtime NXT fans.

At a time when the brand has heel tag champions in The Revival and a dire need for a dynamic babyface team other than American Alpha to step up and establish itself, TM-61 has the potential to do just that.

Andrade "Cien" Almas vs. Tye Dillinger

4 of 5

In a rematch of TakeOver: The End, Andrade "Cien" Almas battled Tye Dillinger in singles competition. As was the case at the live special, the fans turned on the newcomer and embraced the favorite veteran.

Almas was his flashy self, showing incredible athleticism as he evaded Dillinger early. He soon fell prey to a nasty knee to the gut, a backbreaker and a series of forearms. Dillinger attempted to take the action to the mat, where he had clear control, but Almas fought his way back into the match.

Just as he did a week ago, Almas delivered the running double knees to the chest for the pinfall victory.

Result

Andrade "Cien" Almas defeated Tye Dillinger.

Grade

B-

Analysis

A match on par with their initial bout, this was fun.

Almas is a charismatic performer whose athleticism is matched by no other star on the NXT roster. He is a star in the making, though the fans inside Full Sail may force him to get there as a villain.

The adoration for Dillinger is reminiscent, though on a much smaller scale, of the WWE audience's love for Daniel Bryan. Dillinger is a staple of NXT, a competitor whose skills are as undeniable as his push has been nonexistent. The vocal outcry of support for The Perfect 10 may force Triple H and company to reward the unselfish competitor with a sustained push.

Finn Balor Promo

5 of 5

At a crossroads after his loss to Samoa Joe last Wednesday at TakeOver: The End, Finn Balor entered the NXT Arena to an ovation befitting his star. The crowd showed great respect for the Irishman, raining down on him with chants of "Thank you, Finn" and "Please don't go."

Balor discussed his arrival to NXT and his matches with great Superstars, including the likes of Tyler Breeze, Neville, Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe. After reigning over the brand as its franchise star and the longest-reigning heavyweight champion in its history, he asked, "What's next for Finn Balor?"

He repeated the question twice more before Shinsuke Nakamura arrived, drawing a thunderous ovation from the fans in attendance.

Nakamura recalled watching Balor dominate NXT while he was still in Japan, knowing that, title or no title, The Demon is the icon of the brand. To be champion, he stated, he must beat the icon.

Balor vs. Nakamura is what's next, the former champion revealed.

The fan favorites shook hands before staring each other down to close out the show.

Grade

A+

Analysis

It was difficult not to get goosebumps watching that entire exchange go down. In one segment, NXT set up an epic main event for whichever show it opts to headline with Balor vs. Nakamura, all the while establishing the leader of The Demon as the greatest star of the NXT era.

The respect exchanged by Balor and Nakamura was refreshing. In an industry in which so many feuds are based on hatred or some overly clever angle thought up in a writer's room, to see two guys recognize the greatness in each other and agree to a match for no other reason than to entertain the crowd and determine who's the better man is a welcome change.

An extraordinary segment.
